Handgun magazines - Lube or No Lube?

No lube. It makes them messy to handle and the pages stick together.

Never lubed a magazine.

Honestly, when I read the title of the thread, thought it was about a magazine article about lubing guns LOL

I lightly lube the outside of mine, and wipe off. New mag. springs will be stiff... Buy a loader assist. I have this one

Amazon.com : Maglula UpLULA Magazine Speed Loader 9mm-.45 ACP UP6B : Gun Magazine Loaders : Sports & Outdoors
I've got that exact loader on order with the extra mags and a few other things. They should be in sometime this week. I'm more concerned with the inside of the magazine rather than the outside. The spring and follower just don't seem to be smooth. I've watched videos of folks loading mags by hand. Perhaps it's my RA but my mags are really stiff and I can't push the rounds down. They'll roll off to one side or the other before pushing the previous round down. I see these guys practically just flipping the rounds in like there's no spring pressure. Maybe I'm just too weak. :)

Part of it is technique Ken. Part of it is practice, and yes part of it is strong, nimble fingers. The more you load magazines the easier it gets for everyone. Most new shooters at a match have some trouble thumbing in rounds. You can always tell the old experienced shooters as they can load mags easily and the newbies struggle. The average person just starting out no matter how good their fingers are will struggle for a while. But I am not discounting RA, I can imagine that could slow down anyone.

If you attend a class or do a lot of shooting, those loaders are hand savers.

Went to a Sig Sauer course and we shot upwards of 200 rounds a day for three days. People were borrowing my loaders after day 1. I was shooting .45ACP (because they included ammo cost in the course at the time) and the P220 magazine springs are healthy.

Beware using car waxes as many of them have Silicone.

If your firearm is lubricated properly it may impart some of its lube into the mag, but no need to lube them on their own. You may need to wipe them out after a few rounds, or if you start to experience mag related failures. Its also good practice to label each mag so you can track if a specific mag is causing said issues.

If the springs are really tight, load the mags up to their full capacity and let them sit for awhile, then unload and reload them.

It should get easier the more you use them.

Leave the magazines loaded and the springs will soften over a little time.

I make my own mag lube, 1-part transmission fluid, 1-part diesel, and 2-parts local bees wax, CAREFULLY heat in kitchen oven until bees wax melts and store in a used Crisco can. When ready to use throw this crap in the trash and apply a quality 3-1 lube and wipe with a dry cloth.

:) have fun!

I could be wrong ,but I really don't think lube is gonna help you with the loading issue. The mags are new ,so the springs are gonna be tight. They will loosen up some, but this loader is great. I also have one for my AR. The AR rounds are actually easier for me to load by hand than the smaller ammo. With the larger AR rounds, my fat fingers have more to hold onto
