Dogs and neighbors.

"Oh, he won't bite"..........I love that. But, if I'm on your property I'll have to take my chances. In the past, when on anothers' property and the dog comes jumping all over the side of my truck (scratching it). I just honk the horn until the owner comes out. That works for me.

Hey Richard,,,,,,,,,,I'll call ahead.:D

Although I tolerate the barking, I DO NOT tolerate jumping on a vehicle. Once in awhile he'll sneak in a quick "tire pee" but he knows to not let me catch him at it.

Mike, you show up anytime you like.

One of these days on a Colorado trip I'm gonna stop and see you. Maybe I can get some of those home grown veggies. :D

I always read GSD as LGD livestock guardian dog.

Dogs running loose will likely get themselves in trouble. I understand the desire to shoot one that interrupts a deer hunt. My neighbors' dogs would do that before he and I had words and he started penning them. That pack of his was getting scary. I sat by a tree and watched them hunt. They had fanned out and were driving a coyote. I don't like coyotes but seeing one flee in terror was disconcerting. They chased it into a large wooded area. The four little ones circled the perimeter while the two large ones went in after it. Don't know if they ever got it but if it had been legal to shoot the dogs, I would have. A couple of weeks after that, I was talking with their owner around mid-day. Suddenly a large doe bounds out of the trees and crosses the field in a full run. A couple of seconds later, here comes his pack. I looked at him and I didn't have to say a word. We both knew what we had just seen. I think he finally realized that if one of the ranchers saw them running their stock, that it would be end of the dogs. Whatever, he keeps them fenced now.

Please be patient when you see a dog in a store. Most dogs need socialization to be well behaved. We take ours whenever possible and she has always been well behaved. If I see someone who might be afraid of her, I am careful to quickly move out of their way. As I have said, our dog is very well trained but she needs exposure to as many situations as possible. I'm careful to only put her in situations where she can succeed and remove her quickly from situations that are stressful. You don't have to be friendly to her, you can ignore her completely. Thank you for your patience.

Thank you. Our dogs are usually with us at pet friendly stores, HD, TSC, etc. They are kept away from people that don't show an interest and well away from people that seem frightened. We often have people that want to meet and pet them and that's fine but please ask first.

I'm not sure what she would do around large livestock but she definitely guards us. At home she periodically goes from window to window, checking the perimeter. We get a warning woof at every squirrel, rabbit, dog and of course the Segway rider. When we're in the field, she initially runs around checking the area. We leave the truck doors open. After a bit, she jumps in the truck and sits up watching the perimeter. If we get too far away, she comes after us. She really is a very good dog but we don't let her run off our property and we do keep her within sight.

Well, in my experience, I've never met a dumb dog, but have met a many dumb dog owners. And I'm not kidding.

I had a golden retriever that was dumb, sweet dog but dumb as a rock.
German shepherd would bark and tell on her for leaving the yard

What every good master should do.

Every night my wife and I go for a walk, we have to take the lead. Everyone once in a while our neighbor's dog follows us for the walk (along the road) and we have to walk him because we don't want to run the risk of him getting hit by a car with him following us on the road. My wife and I joke that we walk our neighbors dog but not our own.

I leave for 2 hours and it's on page 5 lmao, that's way too much to read on the subject lol.

That being said in Ohio the owner is 100% liable for whatever the dog does
