To me that's like outlawing guns, is it Chicago that did that and they are the murder capitol of the U.S.?
That's certainly one way to look at it. Another way is that the type of people who typically own pit bulls are the at least part of the problem.

Dogs are much easier to ban than guns because enforcement is much easier. Pit bulls are responsible for a disproportionate amount of attacks due to a variety of reasons and communities are beginning to ban them because of this.

People who do licensed conceal carry of a pit bull don't make the news.

I don't believe that pits are more bite prone than other dogs, I believe that pit bites get reported more than other dogs, maybe they do more damage but are not more bite prone.

The Lies, **** Lies and Statistics Behind Dog Bites | The Huffington Post

When people become afraid of dogs just by the way they look that's not fair for the dog, the most aggressive dog I have ever owned or seen was a choc lab I had, I had to constantly watch that dog, he was all the time picking fights with other dogs and doing the whole dominance thing, the least aggressive dogs I have ever seen, been around and know people who own them is pit bull classification dogs and my Sheppard, my Sheppard scares the piss out of people coming up to the house all the time but he's less likely to bite someone than my lab was, I think labs by far are more bite prone, they just have a better reputation.

Very good post. The article was good as well. I particularly liked

Death by a real dog- 1 in 116,448.

Death by a hot dog- 1 in 3,375.

Just like every gun is a "Glock" or and "Assault weapon" - It scared me it must be a pit bull.

But please keep the stereotype going because my next dog will likely be "pit" or Mastive. They are great at keeping strangers away.

That is a good point.
There are many people whom think like that. In fact, I know someone like that. She gets an idea, decides that the way she wants it to be, or thats the way it should be, so therefore thats the way it is. I gave up trying to understand her a long time ago.

I didn't know you meet my wife!

I have had experience with 3 English mastives, them dogs used full sized basket balls as toys and could run around 25-35mph, I know this because every time I went to my buddies house the biggest one looked like it was gonna try to take a bite out of my quad tire every time I left, his name was tank and would chase my quad and be less than a foot from my front tire until I sped up faster than he could run lol.

They were good dogs, never aggressive but just massive lol, and they slobbered like no other lmao.

I would never pull a weapon if I didn't intend to use it, I hope I never ever have to, it wouldn't be for threatening anyone, I don't want people to know I carry. If a dog growled or snarls and I can get away or get my kids away I would in a heartbeat, if the dog came and attacked that's a different scenario. That is why I put IF in bold, IF is a big word here.

Cool. We're on the same page. A neighbor has a pit that is aggressive. We've discussed it and he knows that if it ever comes for my family that I will almost certainly put it down. I would expect the same of anybody should by dog ever do the unthinkable and attack a child. (Attack versus defend itself. My brother had a lab that was forced into a corner and being beaten by a 10 year old girl. Another girl tried to comfort the dog and got bit. Tensions were pretty high with that one put mom put her foot down, pointing out the dog was defending itself. The beater was banned from the house. Not everybody was happy, especially the parents of the girl that got bit, but it was the right call and everybody got over it more or less.)

Had I witnessed it it wouldn't have been pretty, he knew better, my dogs aren't allowed to beg for food when we are eating, inside or out, they are made to lay down preferably a good distance away. When I found out what he did I took care of it by putting him up and removing the cake so no one would eat it, lol.

I'd have been mortified if it was my dog but still, it is pretty funny. Of course if it was my dog, I'd stop the behavior immediately and she would know she had done wrong. Nice of you to remove the cake.

Chances are your or your insurance agent couldn't tell the difference between an American pit bull terrier and about 25 other breeds if they bit you in the *** LOL

Okay, story time. A lady I dated (before I met my wife) lived in a rough part of town. She had a big male Rottweiler, Max. One night while she was asleep she heard the window rattle. She looked and could see someone outside trying to jimmy the window. Max quietly got off the bed and sat next to the window. The intruder got the window open and started to step in. As soon as his foot hit the floor, Max got him. Just one bite. Max never growled, never snarled, never barked, just sat patiently and waited. The intruder screamed and broke the window as he fled. Man, that had to have hurt.
