If you were getting a PTO generator for the rare power outage that may occur, would you prefer it on a 3pt hitch platform or on a trailer? Both the trailer and the platform would likely come from the manufacturer.

I'd go for a 3-pt hitch one. Just because it's two less tires, couple less bearings, and I prefer simplicity on stuff you need in an emergency. Either would be a good idea.

I would go with the trailer. Quicker to hitch up in a hurry when the power is out, its nasty out, you have no lights and mama wants to know why that expensive generator you bought hasn't got her lights on yet. IMHO

I have a small (3000 watt) stand alone generator. In the 34 years here, I've never had to use a generator to power the house. Our longest outage was only 28 hours. Instead, I put the generator on my ATV and take it out on the property to power my tools. At least, that way it gets some use. I just can't see running a 64hp tractor to power a generator. If I were to purchase a "whole house" generator - it would be one of those that is mounted on a concrete slab and powered with propane. Just MHO.

Mine would be diesel.

I have a 10K that is trailer mounted;works o.k.for my uses. The plus with a trailer is that I can move it inside with-out the tractor(to store).I did replace the pneumatic tires with hard rubber tires. They never seemed to hold air long.I have used mine very little but sure is nice to have if you need it.I hatch and raise pheasant and can't be with-out power in the spring;I would loose my whole hatch.

The typical house doesn't need much power so the 3 PT attachment would be fine. However, for most folks the PTO style isn't the best option. It has a lot of limitations.

3PT:
- simple/reliable and should be lowest cost. May be easier to move through rough country or disaster debris.
- needs a tractor to move (both a Pro and Con)

Trailer:
- costlier, a bit more to go wrong.
- may limit mobility, in rough going
- easier to move. For you, and thieves

Comparing the 2, if cost and high mobility aren't big factors, I'd probably make the call on how often things "grow legs" around where I live.

PTO gens are a good way to get big power at relatively low cost, if they fit your household operating needs.

For a house, just set it on the ground and stake it down. Move it with the bucket. For a farm, a 3 pt. will get you to where the work is.

Tailer, road worthy and the tires if inflated to the correct pressure will absorb operational vibration.
