Guys and Gals,

I just happened to look up a few videos on YouTube about zero turns, well one video led to another and I found myself watching a guy cut a lawn professionally and he said he was gonna charge $50 for a tiny little yard because it had a lot of pine needles and was around 6in tall.

It got me thinking and I did some research about how much it costs to have the grass cut, it came up $30-$50 average for a cut, trim, edge and blow clippings ext.

My yard is around 1.5-2 acres that I cut, takes me around an hour and 20 mins to just mow, I would say $50-$70 per week to mow it, based off what I have read.

I estimated 24 cuttings in a season, that would be $1200-$1440 per season, then people add fertilizer, aerating, specific leaf removal, dandelion treatment, the list goes on and on.

All that can add up to big bucks per year just for lawn maintenance.

Anyone pay to have there grass cut and maintained? If so what do you pay?

All the sudden the cost of a new garden tractor doesn't seem so high lmao.

I have a half acre lot. Did it myself for 10 years. Wore out 2 riding mowers, countless weed whackers and blowers.
Simply got tired of all the maintenance, repairs and spending 2 hrs of my valuable weekend doing yard work.
Took me 3 companies to find a good one but I do have a good one. I pay $150 per month.
It is worth it for me just in time alone.

My neighbor has his own landscape business and he charges a dollar a minute to mow. His zero turn is a little faster than mine, so I would be looking at $100 a week for my 5 acres. For $400 a month, I can buy a lot of mowers! Plus I really enjoy my mowing time.

I never minded mowing myself, I do enjoy running a riding mower most days, rarely do I see it as a chore.

I don't see anything wrong with someone paying to have there grass cut and maintained, some people have no desire to run a mower or trim bushes and value there time more.

This October will be 3 years in my house, I have more projects than time and not enough money to complete 1/4 of my projects most of the time. To me $150-$200+ a month is a lot of money, I could be using that on a diff project or paying something down.

I just had the conversation at work about people that work M-F and screw off S & S, I have not had the luxury, in a VERY long time of having 2 days a week to do nothing and just have fun, now it looks like that won't happen for a long time to come.

It takes me 3-1/4 hours to mow my yard. The front and side areas are open but the back and areas around the tractor shed, spring house, and barn are hilly and time consuming. Considering I am mowing with a 6' RFM and a 53 HP tractor the benefits of a zero turn would be minimal. A classmate of mine mows my sisters yard and is very reasonable on his charges. I've thought about getting a quote for the front and sides but I figure that would be around $100. Right now I have the time and health to do it all so I will continue to do so. It is a time consuming proposition. Maintenance on the mower, tractor, etc...is additional time involved. I certainly understand folks who get their yards mowed. It is convenience and as I get older I understand it even more.

I have 2 to 2.5 acres of lawn (also 3-4 acres of field, but we won't discuss that). I mow with a 60" Deere zero-turn. Although the lawn is pretty flat, it's also pretty bumpy, so I don't run balls to the wall. If I do all the mowing and trimming in one session...probably about 3 hours or so. I don't normally do all the work at one time though.
I find mowing very relaxing...weed trimming less so, but not unbearable.
So, no intention of farming this work out...not as long as I can do the work.

Me too Roy. I used to be adamant about getting it all done in one day. Now I find it quite acceptable to do the front and sides in one day and the rest the next. Once a month I give the trim areas a good dose of Round Up. This is after the once a year weed eating I do. As I age I find that slowing down and enjoying the moment is quite the norm and quite enjoyable also.

So you don't enjoy the things you do on your days off? Maybe you are headed down the wrong life path?

I too find it acceptable to mow spread out over two or three days. Total mowing time is 8 hours. I put on my radio headphones and enjoy my time outdoors running equipment. I've never tried to calculate what it costs me. Too complicated to get any accuracy.

If I had to pay to get it done I would eliminate most of it.

I grew up in the Oakland area of California and never knew of anybody who hired somebody to mow their lawn. The only lawn mowing crews I ever saw where at commercial buildings. When I moved to Tyler 15 years ago, one of the things that shocked me was how many lawn mowing businesses there where, and how they where everywhere. Seems like most people here do not mow their own lawn. I'm talking inside city limits, quarter acre to half acre lots, and a lot that are much smaller. The noise is what bothers me, I don't care if people want to hire it out. I guess that's good for the economy by creating jobs. I'm told they spend anywhere from $40 on up a week to have it mowed. Lady I'm working for right now pays $500 a month to have her 2 1/2 acre yard mowed, trimmed and taken care of once a week. When I do the math, figure out cost of equipment including trailer and vehicle to haul it around, time to each job, I just don't see why anybody would do it for a living.
