Is it just me or do the screws holding the track to the trailer look small? Maybe there is enough of them that its pretty strong??

I was thinking the fasteners on the the actual strap looked pretty whimpy

I don't know if I'm seeing it right, but the left hand hardware that transitions between the webbing and the hook looks like a piece a of 10 gauge sheet with a 90 degree twist. Not confidence inspiring.

I've personally never been a fan of etrack in the floor for cars.
As for the strap, looks like a standard hook on some 2in ratchet strap.

Noticed the screws as well

I agree it's not a good looking setup, it was just the first image that came up in a search. The screws may not be undersized, but they're only installed every 3 to 5 holes and the spacing seems to be sorta random. There are much better ratchet straps that can be used also.

E-Track is actually pretty good stuff, but as with anything check the ratings. Lots of it is simply made for light duty work such as inside a cargo van box to keep a couple hundred pounds of furniture or appliances from moving around.

I purchased some 24" sections of heavy duty E-Track channel for use on a truck bed project. The instructions that came with that E-Track said to install a screw in every other hole for screwing it to a wooden deck using 1-1/4" lag screws. If attaching to a metal deck with self tapping screws, the deck needed to be 3/16" thick and screws used in all of the mounting holes. If thinner than 3/16", a backing plate of some sort should be used. With proper installation those 24" sections of E-Track are rated to withstand 5000lbs of pull. Many of the connectors that attach to E-Track are rated for much less and would be the weak links, so you gotta watch what you buy.

Apologies for straying, but 5000lbs seems a little on the light side for retaining a 3500lb vehicle traveling at 55 MPH. Granted we won't be stopping on a dime, but I have to think that the kinetic energy would very quickly surpass the limit under any kind of panic braking.

That's why you use four of them. One on each corner of the car. 20,000lbs is plenty to hold a LARGE 5000lbs sedan in place. "Ratings"-wise, that would make it equal to what you see many do, which is a 10k strap up front and a 10k strap out back. In reality, it is safer. Four straps, one at each corner, if one breaks, there are still 3 straps in place and 15k of rated holding capacity. Using a 10k strap up front and another in back, if one breaks, you are down to 1 strap and only 10k of holding capacity with one end of the cargo loose to move.

I have a 5.5' bed on my F-150. I've hauled 16' crown, base, quarter round, MDF this and that over the years. When doing so, I open the sliding window, push the stack of boards all the way to the front of the truck close to the windshield and resting on the dash (Crew Cab) and then ratchet strap completely around the load at the front and rear of the bed. Leaves a lot less overhang. Have never had a load been able to shift this way at all.

When hauling larger loads or more substantial wood, I use my 16' trailer.

Certainly won't hold it in a crash, but I doubt your trailering rig is going to be doing more than 1g in deceleration (in fact, it's going to be considerably less) in which case your 3500lb vehicle is going to put less than 3500lb of force on the straps (3500lb hanging in air on a strap is experiencing 1g, just as a strap trying to hold a car back that's decelerating at 1g is).

Plus, your 3500lb vehicle is presumably being restrained by more than one attachment point, right?
