It's flower/fruit looks like green bagworms...they are not.

Former owner thinks it a beech.

Could be a son of a beech too. :D Truthfully I can't tell much without a close up of the leaves and branch structure and another of the bark.

There are several beech species, but I will go out on a limb (;)) and say that it is not an American beech.

Scratch the bark or rip off a small end up at eye level and smell it and chew on it. Should taste and smell like white birch beer...
