Yep... honest truth and my trees are planted backyard trees.

The permit application fee is $355 (Use to be $50)

http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/pwa/documents/report/oak041832.pdf

Photograph or site plan/sketch must be submitted.

All nearby property owners notified by mail and notices posted with instructions of how protest at public hearing.

The real upshot is people leave dead and diseased trees until they topple over and a lot of proactive tree removal for safety no longer happens.

A hearing, to cut down your own **** tree? Good thing I'm where I am.

Cadillac Michigan city ordinances... (OK, Maybe you're not in town, but....), doesn't mention anything about trees... but you can't feed the ducks.

1. Can I park on the tree lawn?
Parking on the tree lawn is prohibited. Tree lawn parking permits are issued for prohibited hours.

2. Can I keep inoperable vehicles on my property?
All vehicles on private property must be operable. The vehicles need to have air in the tires; working batteries, headlights, etc.

3. Can I store household items, junk and debris in the yard or on my property?
It is unlawful for a person to place, store, accumulate or maintain garbage or debris in the yard or on private property.

4. Can I park on the sidewalk or block the sidewalk?
The sidewalks need to stay unobstructed for public use.

5. Do I have to mow my lawn?
Every homeowner / occupant is required to remove noxious weeds and grass, including the tree lawn. The grass cannot be over twelve (12) inches on the average.

6. Can I leave my garbage tote at the curb?
The garbage tote can be placed at the curb the night before your scheduled pick-up day, but the tote needs to be brought back off the curb the day it is dumped.

7. Can I put a large item out with my garbage for pick-up?
The waste hauler will take one (1) large item along with your garbage pick-up. This includes tires, appliances, furniture etc.

A yard waste truck will pick up the leaves and tree limbs the same day as your garbage pick-up day.

10. Can I park on the street at night?

12. Can we feed the ducks along the lake?
City Ordinance prohibits feeding waterfoul (ducks) near the Lake Cadillac Shoreline.

Took out a backyard walnut that dropped a limb clipping the house gutter at one property... the city sent out postcards to all the neighbors and head a hearing asking for objections plus all the utility poles were posted...
I can't recall which city but when I was out west I saw postings about a public hearing to take down a sidewalk tree to facilitate a wreck of a building being torn down and a new building being put up. But having a public hearing about a tree being taken down on private property? I wouldn't have been able to hold back asking anyone objecting to help pay my property tax.

It wasn't always this way but with each new year comes new laws.

New homes are prohibited from wood burning and existing severely curtailed. Most wood suitable for firewood goes to the chippers.

Re: Big Tree Small Contractor...a risky business

Here is a video of me felling, processing, hauling a big tree for firewood. I am not sure if these big yellow stringy birch is worth the time because they sure do split hard even with the wood splitter. The biggest risk was hauling it out. I am working in steep terrain with hug boulders that puts my kubota in strange angles especially when push on by a heavy trailer full of wood.

Big Tree Small Contractor A risky business - YouTube

Hi GaProperty,

I was loving the viddy-yo, but then some old guy used up almost half of it playing a string-boxy thing :confused2:-

Just kidding
:) and a little more than a little jealous- I tried to learn guitar, but was told by several instructors that I had no aptitude despite years of hard work.

Can I ask where you sourced that capstan winch/crane on your trailer?

My old HF truck crane is getting old and rusty, and I might be needing a newer and [especially] better one soon.

As to birch- it might not be the best firewood, but I love the smell of it burning, and as we brought in the logs this past winter [we had a bunch of it left over from the big birch tree we cut down a couple of years ago], I peeled off as much of the loose bark as I could, and put it in out kindling/tinder box to use in starting fires for the rest of the winter- both because it worked so well to start fires and also because it made them smell so good as the stove heated up.

Here's my firewood tractor at work, loading this walnut,

on my BSM and then I opened it up,

WOW, pretty nice log, so I took some wide 5/4 flitches off, turning the log until I had all the slabs off,

standard.jpg

Once I went all the way around, I switched to taking 8/4 boards off and stacking them out of the way,

standard.jpg

until I had a total of nine 8/4 boards, 17 inches wide!

NOW, that's what I call some NICE walnut lumber!!

oooooh, and I did get the several 5/4 flitches too!

How long do you think you are going to have to let that dry before you can use it?

Your fine/punishment shall be to forfeit the offending **** to me. Including delivery to New Hampshire.
