Can you describe the failure better?

When you press the clutch pedal does it go down all the way?

I have the same problem as the OP!
Clutch is stuck engaged, on my Ford 1920.
Worked normally in morning, but not that same afternoon.
New clutch has less than 10 hours.
Tractor is always stored inside.
Clutch pedal pushes to the bottom, with no resistance.

:welcome: Welcome to the forum!

I'm going to move this thread over to our John Deere section for you.

Why move it to JD? A 444 is an IH tractor... lol

Block the clutch pedal down... Hook your tractor to something that pulls hard, like a disc, or something else that moves but pulls hard.

Pull until it breaks free, it may take a while...

OR, split the tractor...

OR pull an inspection cover and squirt kerosene on the clutch plate and pull something with the tractor as above...

You should feel some resistance at about 3/4", to 1" from pedal rest position. If you're not feeling that resistance, and only 10 hrs. on a new clutch, I'd venture to guess there is a problem with the linkage somewhere. Possibly a pin dropped out, or a keeper of some sort has let part of the linkage, become disengaged.

Does it have a single clutch plate, or dual..?? If you're not sure, does your PTO engage before the tractor starts moving, or engage at the same time..?? It could be an adjustment problem. Should be approx. 3/4" of free travel off the pedal rest position, before you feel some resistance of the clutch release bearing engaging the fingers on the pressure plate. Your Operators, or service manual should give the specs. on pedal travel, with either type clutch.
