Biggest problem I see is the safety chains essentially dragging on the pavement. Not that uncommon though.

I don't think they are dragging. Just the way the shadow makes it look. Or did you take the picture and saw it actually happen? I could be wrong.

As I recall the SAE system as well as ounces, gallons, pounds etc etc are all (old) European systems of measurement too but replaced by more logical systems about 200 years ago.

So, we happily copy the Europeans until they get a better idea but then defend the old system as uniquely American. MAGA at its finest.

Yep. Well said. The tired old arguments just don't hold water.

The Hubble telescope lens, and the case of an airliner that landed on an active dragstrip with empty tanks and dead engines, show worst-case examples of mixing two incompatible systems.

Changing over to the world standard will be slow and a nuisance, but in the long run worthwhile.

Don't forget the Mars lander that pancaked due to the same "conversion" failure.

And what was a primary contributor to the problems?

At the time of the incident, Canada was converting to the metric system. As part of this process, the new 767s being acquired by Air Canada were the first to be calibrated for metric units (litres and kilograms) instead of Imperial units (gallons and pounds). All other aircraft were still operating with Imperial units.

Yep, trying to convert to the metric system! LOL! Tell me again why we should...

I would guess the wife was the passenger, so the explosion centered on her, look at that roof on the passenger side! I wonder is she's given up smoking since or if she's going to wait until all her singed hair to grow back?
