Royal Purple Synthetic Oil

Oh, another downsizer! I downsized as well. I started off with Amsoil, put their synthetic hydraulic oil in a Kubota L4850 that called for extrodianary long warm up times for the hydraulic oil which were never adhered to so thought the synthetic would be an extra margin of safety. I am using Chevron THF AW hydraulic oil in my L3830 and Delo 15W40 in the engine. In less then two years now I'm over 400 hours. Part of that was because of the International doing some chores that I sold in October 04. I expect to see more hours on the L3830 this year. I am about to do my 400 hour complete fluid changes. All filters except fuel get changed. Fuel filter does not get changed until 800 hours.

How do you like Chevron's THF AW hydraulic oil ?

I called the bulk Plant here and they don't stock it. The lady wasn't even aware that You can get it in five gallon pails. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Is the orange tint such that You can actually see it better?

I'm just putting it in this weekend. It has got to be easier to see then UDT. It is all synthetic, costs between UDT and Super UDT. It took two weeks to arrive at my Chevron distributer. TractorSmart supplied the filters. I am using my local dealer for the hydraulic filter since they offer the exact same filter with or without the magnet inside for about $10 less. They simply take out the magnet from the old, clean it and pop it in the new non magnet one.

I saw that awhile ago. I always have advised people that it is a wonderful group 5 oil.

The problem for me is price. I can get Amsoil for less money and go longer and performs the same as Redline.

Redline 5w30 and Amsoil series 3000 are very close.

Advance Auto Parts & Auto Zone here is/has discontinued the supply as it is not a good seller.

Too expensive for this area.

yea it is not a good seller since most will not pay the $8+ per qt. Most will not even pay half that....

I am an Amsoil dealer & can't say anything bad about Redline--very similar product. Amsoil will tell you the same thing: all the oil companies buy the base stock from 2 or 3 suppliers, they do the blending themselves & add additive packages (again, from only 2 or 3 chemical suppliers). It is up to the oil company to choose what to sell. Basically, you get what you pay for. Cheaper oil is made from cheaper stock & additives. Amsoil will occasionally be cheaper than Redline because of their sales approach (direct-sales through guys like me), which has its pros & cons.

I use Amsoil, but if they ever went out of business ( /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) I'd choose Redline as my first alternative. Although they seem to know gas oils better than diesels (limited CI-4+ ratings)...

Is the 15w40 rated for diesels? I've seen some debate on this, and heard (may just be coincidence) from people who lost engines (GM 6.5L) with this oil. Coincidentally I also lost a FRESH 6.5, but in fairness, I ran it VERY hard, and there was a bit of "chicken or the egg" cloudiness as the cam bearings were destroyed, but the block was also cracked...

I now run either Amsoil (dealer) or Mobil. For Mobil, I either use Delvac 1300 for petroleum, and Delvac 1 for synthetic. For Amsoil, I use the 15w40 Diesel and marine.
