yanmar ym226d
i have a ym226d
bought with a broken trans case....repaired the case

i never moved it under its own power..and .cant get it to move
i can turn the engine over with the pto shaft so i assume the clutch is ok??
if i push in the clutch the motor wont turn over...
any range f or r wont even act like it wants to move

the arm (controls the hydro clutch) was not connected so i dont know what the adjustment should be.... i can spin that arm with no resistance... i think that might be the problem..

any ideas?

Welcome!

Hydro clutch arm? I think that's a shifter nearly identical to an automotive automatic transmission's shifter. (If yours spins freely its apparently disconnected from anything inside the transmission). The shifter moves a piston to cover and uncover hydraulic ports, sending fluid to different internal clutches that engage the various gears. Look on Hoyetractor's site for diagrams. I think you will find a removable cover where that shifter lever goes in, that you can remove to see if the linkage has gotten disconnected to that control piston.

Some quick Googling tells me it's a 9-speed in 3 x 3 ranges.
Some guy on My Tractor Forum wrote this which may help (Seems you have to co-ordinate the two shift levers.):

"1. the shift lever down on the right side of transmission how many different positions is it, is only a hi-lo range ( 2 speed ) or are there more than that?

Mine is 9 forward speeds and 3 Reverse. The shift lever is 1, N, 2, 3 for high/medium/low range. The Shift lever by the steering wheel is R, N, 1, 2, 3 to use shift on the go within the ranges. I found that you need to have the column shifter in neutral to change the range on the lower shifter.
"

I'm confused by your reference to a 'hydro clutch". ?

How far did you have it torn down to effect your repair?

Powershift isn't a manual transmission, it's a simple geared range transmission (shift when stopped) in front of a hydraulic transmission that is nearly identical to an automotive A/T, it can be shifted on the go. One significant difference from automotive: no torque converter (fluid coupling). So after the Powershift's internal clutches have engaged (gently) into a specific gear its a pure mechanical connection clear through from the conventional clutch up front, back to the differential.

Yes, I was typing when you were posting Ca.
I just wonder if something internal was disconnected during the housing repair job?

What caused the broken case?

Another thought regarding your description that the PTO can turn the crankshaft. It seems mysterious but it makes sense.

I described above how the Powershift is after the manual range geared transmission. Actually in terms of function (not physical arrangement) that manual range transmission has two outputs:

1) straight through, gear to gear, to the PTO (when the PTO is engaged). That explains how you can turn the crankshift by rotating the PTO. The engine, conventional clutch, conventional gears, are all equivalent to an ordinary manual transmission.

2) the Powershift is fed from a second separate output from the range transmission and passes power to the wheels. (Physically all this is in one enclosure). So power failing to make it through the Powershift to the wheels can give the result you describe, a solid link crankshaft to PTO at the same time there is no power to the wheels.

Is this what you are calling hydro clutch arm?
