I'll be on Rt 50 at least from Canon City CO until Dodge KS. After Dodge I may drop down to 160. Depends on what traffic is like on 50.

Plan today is to visit the Dinosaur National Monument and then get myself to either Carbondale or Hotchkiss CO. Hope to drive over Independence Pass on my way to Canon City Wednesday.

Sounds like a good plan.
Also, I've read about some guys riding the TAT from west to east, but it does seem the majority go east to west. I think if I did it, was t would be on a smaller bike, and I'd need a month to enjoy it.
Have fun!

Today was WINDY!! 20+ cross wind all day. Worst was going over the Douglas Pass on 139 between Rangely and Grand Junction. Had to cut speed all day. Beautiful drive but not relaxing. Stopped in Delta CO for the night. Up early tomorrow to try to beat the wind. Good practice for Kansas next week!!

It does get old. Hopefully this heat will break before you get out of the mountains. If not, I'd hang out there until it does. Going across KS in 100+ degrees with a string south wind is just not fun. Plus it will be blowing you towards oncoming traffic.

View attachment 522244 I'll not be making fantastic trips like IslandTractor. This is me - taking pic - and my new 2017 BMW R1200GSA going over a mountain pass way up in NE WA state. It was one of our "smoke free" days and I really took advantage of it.

I've made it as far as Canon City CO today. I have had many nice rides but nothing better than in eastern Washington. Those rolling grassy hills, gently curved and excellent roads and lack of traffic were wonderful. And, I imagine your riding season is quite long. You're very lucky to live in such a great place. I looked up that Trans America Trail. Had never heard of it before. Wow, now I'm itching to take a ride, but would have to find time. Maybe I could do a section of it next spring.

Made it over Independence Pass and Continental Divide yesterday. Beautiful but windy day crossing the Rockies. Headed from Cañon City CO to Dodge City tomorrow via Rt50 and then on to the Ozarks. Managing to stay off major highways. Lots of motorcyclists at least in Colorado. Image1506045652.955358.jpgIMG_0231.JPGIMG_0240.JPG

Fantastic mountain highway scenery. I think your timing of this trip is to be congratulated also. Kids are back in school, into fall and waning of summer heat and fall colors should be showing as you motor east. I really enjoy all the pictures you post - thank you IT.
