Rural Bashing?

I haven't seen any rural bashing around here. People do mention they almost turned around, because they didn't think we lived this far out, but once they get here and walk around for a bit, they say how quiet it is. No people sounds. A few say it's unnerving, but they aren't bashing rural living.

Heck, years back I called myself a city slicker in training. You couldn't pry me from my shack here now.

We don't have an outside clothesline......too wet here. Like you......we target shoot in the backyard. Today....no shooting but we did have a half dozen cow elk walk through. When our dryer breaks.....I order the part online and fix it myself......easy to do and doesn't cost much.

Not too wet in the summer, downright drought for four months

Been Rural for 55 years now. Have never missed City life. I enjoy peace and quiet, forests, mountains, rivers and wildlife in the yard. I like taking a whizz off the back porch if I have a mind to. I enjoy the freedom and space.

Sweetie's son and DIL just last week bought a really nice house in an pretty nice neighborhood. He said that it was his "10 year house", that he would be moving to a place in the woods (like ours! :)) in that time. The neighbors in this area all know each other and cut through each others yards, etc. Her son is going to be fencing in his back yard for their pets, so his yard will no longer be a cut through. While we were on the deck on Sunday, one of the neighbors cut through the yard to go to another neighbor's house. On the way home Sweetie and I said that his "10 year house" would more likely be a 4 or 5 year house! LOL! Her son is super sociable, but does like his privacy. She and I also said, while we were on his deck by ourselves, that we could NEVER go back to living in a "neighborhood".

... we could NEVER go back to living in a "neighborhood".

My Wife and I see nice Victorian-style houses in town and always comment, "That's a really nice house. Too bad it's in town." We're kind of the same way, mark02tj. If we did have to live in town, it would be in a house like that. But, we know that's not going to happen. We are content where we are.

Someone said to "Bloom where you're Planted" Rural folk are just planted in better soil! To much noise, crime and stink in most cities these days.

Houston is my home town. I admit I love it. I enjoy every minute while I’m there. I know a lot of people there and enjoy visiting with them. I see a lot of them in the Hill Country or East Texas or on the Coast also. I cannot say enough good things about Houston.

BUT, I very seldom HAVE to go to Houston when I don’t want to go. If I HAD to go I might not like it that much.

I would find it very difficult to be tied to one place to live.
