Howdy ya'll,

We just purchased a MF GC1710 from Lone Star Kawasaki and Ag Equipment in Hondo, TX this past Friday. The entire process has actually been very educational and if I were to sum it up in one word...AWESOME!

We live in the Hill country and having just purchased 25 acres this year we have been in the market for our first tractor.

I had rented a couple of Kubota's at a local dealership on several occasions, I enjoyed running the tractors and was amazed at the amount of work I could knock out in the 8 hours of rental time. These rentals were a little bigger than I wanted/felt comfortable with and were somewhat limited on our property by the about 21 acres of thick cedar trees.

So, we started looking into the smaller tractors.

I got my first price quotes locally at the beginning of September. I started at the Kubota dealer where I had rented, the BX25 was priced at $21,000 with no implements. I then went to our local Kioti dealer, I was not impressed at all, first the salesman told me that Kioti did not make a smaller unit. I then told him that I had seen them online and asked if he could check into it for me, his quote was $23,350 with no implements. I then went to the closes JD dealership which was about 1 hour away. I can't even bring myself to write their quote, the salesman told me that they were so much higher than the other tractors was because the JD parts are all still made by JD in house and because "America". JD was just above $25,000 again with no implements.

Now to Lone Star Kawasaki and Ag, these guys sell Massey Ferguson. I drive by their dealership on my way to work and decided to check em out. The price quote I was given for the GC1710 was $15,900 with no implements. I couldn't believe the price difference so I took the quote and told him I needed to do some homework.

I came home and read through these forums like mad looking for some kind of clue that these tractors were not quality and some other explanation for the price difference. I was surprised to see other people post that they were getting these tractors for amounts closer to what I was quoted by the other "brands". I decided to ponder this a little more and I really wanted to check out Mahindra as well, long story short I never got to Mahindra.

I stopped by the Massey dealer a few more times. My salesman Doug was awesome, he even helped us go through getting the Ag exemption completed.

My original quote went passed its 30 day grace period while I was checking into other tractors. They still honored the quote. I got the tractor for the $15,900 a 48" Bush Hog rotary cutter for $1235. They were going to deliver to my home for free but, they also sell trailers there so we decided to get a 16 ft Big Tex tandem trailer which was $2800 (includes TTL) didn't use the Ag exemption for the trailer so we plated as a normal trailer so we can use it for things besides the property.

Got the Tractor home on Friday, put 6 hrs on it over the weekend and realized that the back hoe wouldn't move to the left. I called the dealership on Monday and told them I could bring the tractor to the dealership on Tuesday morning when I got off work. When I got to the dealership they gave me a brand new GC1710 in place of my original tractor....They explained that the BH problem should have been caught in the Pre Delivery Inspection and that I was actually given the tractor that wasn't inspected by accident. I was going to ask for a hat or like 50% off on another implement, something along those lines. These guys gave me a new tractor. Talk about customer service!

Long story I know, but I thought I would share what my experience has been getting my first and now second tractor. I am very impressed with the guys at the Massey Ferguson dealer in Hondo and felt they deserved a shout out. If you are in the market, these guys are awesome.

I'm on shift today so when I get home tomorrow I will post some pictures. Thanks for the warm welcome here and all the helpful information everyone has shared. And if you are still here thanks for reading my novel! Cheers!

Congrats on the tractor! That sounds unusual that the dealer replaced your tractor rather than fix it with 6 hours on it...pretty impressive for sure. Btw, I had predecessor to that model (2310), so yes, good choice on scut IMO. Enjoy!

notice the different colored seat, the first tractor had a gray seat. There is also a difference at the base of the controls for the backhoe. The first tractor had a manufactured date in July, the replacement is Sept.

Welcome to the Massey Family.

That's terrific customer service!

I noticed in your pictures that it looks like you ratchet strap have some type of red rubber shock absorber, is that what I saw?

Thclimer, yes sir that is correct. Once the strap is tight the rubber shock absorber helps keep it from loosening while traveling. At least that is what the fellas told me at the dealer. Seems to work pretty well, I am a little over an hour from the dealer and made the tow 4 times now.

Nice, is there a load rating on the straps?
