Well (long post) yesterday morning I was listening to a local (conservative) radio talk show and he mentioned a "cannabis convention", in a kinda "tongue & cheek" fashion. I was having a very hard time finding motivation for finishing up the siding on an addition I put in our home due to both my shoulders (and knees) aching. I decided right then to go to this "dope fest" (as I interpreted it to be) later in the day after I finished one high section of the siding. What could I loose except a few hours.
I went there wondering all along if I was wasting my time, reluctantly paid $5 to park and $5 to get in as I walked past 2 "millennial" young women playing with a glowing "hula hoop" and some balls on a string the other one had swinging all around....... what in the He!! am I doing here?
There were a lot of "booths" in side and I could tell them apart from the "Medical" to the usual "pot smoking accessories" & growing types and I talked to several of the medical cannabis people that were only offering the CBD's and understood that I was only looking for pain relief and while was not opposed to "recreational use" I wanted no parts of a "high". The first booth I decided to talk to had a little pump spray bottle ($150) that you sprayed under your tongue, after some discussion and confidence built from our conversation they had no samples to take home, but they had a bottle there for sampling, they recommended 2 pumps. I did it but I did not let sit there very long (to absorb) before I swallowed. I moved on to another booth and had a long discussion, about an hour. He was a local long time "pot advocate", in his 50's that I've occasionally heard on this (conservative) radio talk show, and just a "normal" looking, acting & speaking 50 something guy that is a pot fan both medically & recreationally. He gave me several samples including a cream that he & his wife grow & make (all legal here in ME), in the mean time my shoulders were feeling a little better and I felt no "buzz" from the spray at the first booth.
The dog needed to go out a 3am (this morning) and I took one of the 2nd guy's pills then and I feel no mind altering effects and my shoulders & neck feel better right now. I am now more interested and less skeptical and will keep exploring this option.

After my wife dealt with breast cancer, and after the fact, she started looking into "alternative" medicine.

At first, I won't lie, thought she was dealing with some nuts. Now I know she isn't. My wife is very intelligent and does her research. She would of done things very differently if she knows know what she didn't know then.

I've come to the conclusion that "traditional" medicine, pharmaceutical companies, the FDA and government are all in cahoots together. The amount of money cancer alone generates for everyone I've listed is mind boggling.

This is the direct result of GOVERNMENT intervention in ALL aspects. Think of a single .gov program in which there isn't waste and corruption.

Concerning Medicine, there are several facets to the problem.

1. Obviously the drug companies want to have strict regulation to allow them an essential monopoly on medications.
2. Many... and I say many rather than all, Drs and other medical staffers want regulation for the same reason. However this is where I diverge in part. As a MD, I believe people should have the RIGHT to get their care in any way they choose. If you want to dance in chicken gizzards and howl at the moon while wearing crystals and tattoos of pyramids... that's fine with me. Just don't expect me to pick up the pieces when it all falls apart (Steve Jobs)
3. EVERY patient wants to 'be well' however every patient is not willing to do what they should to be or remain well. And FEW patients believe they should actually pay for what they get out of medicine. They equate the 10min they see a MD as the only time they should pay... ignoring the years of work it took for the MD to gain the knowledge to adequately treat that patient in those 10min.
4. Insurance doesn't care one bit about how much medicine costs... because they take a cut off the top and pass the costs to the patient's anyway.

5. BUT MOSTLY... it is the requirement of Patient's that 'nothing bad happen' and 'immediate and total treatment' which causes most issues. If they didn't require perfection, .gov wouldn't be as prone to over-regulate, MDs wouldn't be as prone to 'over test/treat' and patient's would be responsible for their own health to a greater degree. That is not how we are as a country however. We expect perfection and complete treatment in those 10min visits.

My wifes new doctor has a MD degree from a "legitimate" university. Practiced "conventional" medicine for some time before becoming a "holistic" doctor. Wife came across the new doctor by some of the articles they wrote in local periodicals.

All I know is pretty much everything she does is out of pocket, insurance doesn't allow it.
