Tying knots

I've had pairs of shorts (not underwear) that have a draw string in the front.

Let me tell you, the best knot you'll ever tie in your life is the one that you tied in your shorts right before you have to piss like a race horse and you discover you can't get the **** knot untied so that you can go!

There is a strong and a weak version of tying your shoe laces. Here is a Ted talk on it that I've passed on to a lot of people!

And I've got a special shoe tying knot that never comes undone until you pull the tag. I've had some shoes tied for more than a year.

First, tie an overhand knot right over left.
Then, make two bunny ears.
Tie the bunny ears left over right, but don't pull them tight.
Then tuck the right bunny ear behind and through again AND pull its tag line through with it.
Finally, snug both bunny ears down, and you'll see TWO loops over the knot, one on each side. They dress up real nice. It's a beautiful looking symmetrical knot and the two loops over the whole thing keeps it snug pretty much forever and eternity, yet you can pull either tag line and undo the thing just like a normal shoe knot.

Use that shoelace knot that I mentioned above... works great for gottagonow situations.

I never took boy scouts, therefore I never learned knots or even the names. I get by though, string just becomes a consumable. I just make sure it looks tight, and cut the knot when I'm done.

Bit of trivia:
There is a well known knot called the Chater Knot, it was commonly used by the Royal Navy to knot the ends of the cat'o'nine tails to stop it fraying and to induce bleeding, it became known as the Blood Knot.

Bowline, bowline on a bight, long tailed bowline, French bowline, figure 8, figure 8 on a bight, MR8, square knot, overhand knot, double fisherman, water knot, prusik hitch, alpine butterfly, clove hitch, sheet bend, timber hitch, half hitch, truckers hitch, Italian hitch, and munters hitch! Just depends on what the situation and applications for the use of the knot or hitch.

I was a scout. I love knots. Forgotten more than I remember. Do like the taut-line and especially the bowline. Then there are the fishing knots!

But if someone can tell me how to tie my leather laced slippers without them coming apart I would be grateful. :pullinghair:

I like knots too, and tying them, but I'm not familiar with the taut-line. I'm not sure about the fishing knots either as I don't fish much anymore but I think it was a palomar that my dad and I used to tie most. I can still tie the fishing knot he taught me, just don't know the proper names of them lol. I mostly use and tie approved rescue and climbing knots and a few good utility knots now, and sometimes will sit down with a piece of rope and tie them all to stay proficient at them so I'm not fumbling if we get a call for a rescue.

I don't tie ropes in the winter. Afraid I'll freeze my knots off.

If you don't know how to tie the right knot, tie lots of 'em! -credit to my Navy officer friend.
