IMO some of the best dishes start from left over roasts etc...
One of my favorites is Lamb Ragu...

Nothing flavors a pot of beans and potatoes like some leftover smoked pork butt etc...

Some foods are better the 2nd or 3rd time, like chili.

I was tearing down some houses for a road widening project. First house was from an old German couple, it was scrubbed clean from top to bottom. Second house was from guy who owned restaurant across the street, it looked like he didn’t throw out garbage for six months. Three rooms were filled to ceiling with garbage

I can remember when lots of folks didn't buy dog food for their dogs. The dogs got plenty to eat with the table scraps. But if our dog only got table scraps, she's starve within a week. I, too, am one of those who eats everything on my plate; just can't change the way I was raised, I guess. And leftovers get eaten, not thrown away.

Now days dogs have multiple food options, puppy food, active dog and elder dog with a dozen of varieties.
Pet vets charge about the same as human MD's.
Dogs go thru a dozen or so shots and gosh you can even buy pet medical insurance.
Back then our dogs lived on table scraps with a can or so now and then of Pard dog food.
Garlic was the 'de worming' du jour and Creoline was the wash for flees.
And all out pets lived to ripe old ages.
With the dozen or so dogs we owned I don't think a one ever saw a vet.

Yep, and I just sat must of the stuff out for me to make a big pot tomorrow. It'll be good for at least 2 or 3 days.

Every time we have a roast, we chop up what's left of the roast, potatoes, carrots, and onions, then add a can or two of mixed vegetables, tomato sauce, salt & pepper and make a big pot of vegetable/beef soup that will last another couple of days.

"Being a dumb man, I can pretty much eat the same thing over and over, but my wife seems to like some amount of variety"

That's the difference between men and women. Always drove me crazy. If a man finds a place he likes to eat, he need look no further and could eat there the rest of his life.

I did eat out a lot. Food prices got too high and so I cut down. Now the Ontario Government has mandated their high minimum wage. I won't be eating out hardly at all now.

I go to a local italian place most sundays. Can get a 12" hamburger sub, fries and drink cheaper, and way better, than a wendy burger next door.

FWIW...Be thankful if you can eat what you want from where you want...I don't think anything has affected my (aging boomer) lifestyle more than a restricted sodium diet...it really sucks...
Most restaurant/fast food is loaded as is almost anything prepared and packaged...even many of the packaged (fresh) meats have added sodium...I know it's also hard for those with blood sugar issues...

Do you have to eat everything on your plate to not throw it away?

Reheat and eat later. Some things don’t reheat well. But when I get full I stop. Not another bite once I have had enough. No matter how much is left.

A Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger at Wendy’s is $1.69.

It alone is enough for me most of the time. Sr. soft drink is free and refillable.
