Why not put the date in your photos?

I only WISH my old digital 4MB camera took as good pictures as my ultra-cheap phone camera! Neither have a date stamp feature. And yes, dating photos is an excellent idea, especially after some time has passed.

So, the question begs - is it time for a better camera, or a better phone, with a time stamp.

I know computer screens and understand the demons and wasters of time they can be. For me, it's a flip phone and a separate camera. I could take a flip phone pic if need be but there's never been a need. Just bought a Canon 620 camera for $229 and it is spectacular and clear. Get one, put the date stamp in, keep the cr@ppo phone and kick back.

Got to give credit to my parents. They generally wrote the year either in the corner or on the back of the picture.

Excellent parents. Looks like some of it rubbed off on the kids.

Date on pictures, good idea but I couldn't find a setting on my Apple SE for a date set. In the last few years with family memberbers taken photos with smart phones, I now have a collection of photos on PB and on my com with no exact date.

I kinda have go by memory and background scenery for dates. Like I have a picture of my tractor bought in June 07, the picture of the tractor still looks new so I know that picture was taken in June 07, next picture shows tractor all scratch up, dents on the hood and mud all over the it, I know that pic was taken after June 07, if snow is all over it in the picture, it was taken in winter time after Dec. 07, if it's up side down I know that picture hasn't been taken yet.

All digital cameras and smartphone cameras will embed information in the image EXIF record, but not overlay it on the photo, which is what I think the OP is wanting. A few years back, I made an app called Theodolite for iPhones/iPads to overlay date, time, as well as GPS info and comments on photos, and it gets a lot of use in survey, construction, and forestry businesses. A lot of regular people use it too. Can do simple text overlay as well as viewfinder overlay. If anybody has an iPhone/iPad running iOS 10 or later and wants to give it a try, PM me and I can give you a download code -- I have a few left that I'd be glad to give to TBN folks.

Wow, that's cool! Any Android version available of your app?

I used to do film, you know when we had SLR cameras, before the digital days. I'd get duplicate prints, distribute copy one and keep the 2nd copy to make dups from things called negatives! I'd then have a photo envelope with one copy and the negs, and it would also have a date from when taken. Now I do monthly or specific trip or event 'tree' in my photo files on the pc. It would be awesome to get an app that would print on the back of the photo all the specific data one selected prior to taking the pic. With double sided printers it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility. Unless one needed the data on the front, as in the case of your app, s219, having date and time and location on the back would suffice for most like me....

Another idea for those who in the future might be interested in the picture--write down the names of the people in the photo. You can do it in the properties for pictures store in the computer.

Why would you want a date on your photo? I need names and places stamped on my photos. If its been more then a year, I will probably not remember where it was taken, or who was in the picture.

As the years pass it helps put things in persective. Most of us can rememebr people and places but the date part is always fuzzy, especially as time passes.

I know what you're saying. Cause if it was said in May 07 it wouldn't of been true! ;)

One of my Sons selected my camera. It posts the date and time, but I don't know how it got that way. But i did figure out how to post pictures on TBN.:) The flip phone vibrates in my pocket now and then.....and I know how to say "Hello".

Cheers To All this day,
Mike
