Today I cut and skidded out a huge oak tree,

Then holding it over or setting it in my wagon, and cutting it into firewood lengths,

and S N I had a full load,

of just over 2 cords,

Those big ole gangly trees are a pain to get down and work up but there is a lot of good wood in them.
The sides of your wagon are still holding up in good shape SR. They are very picturesque Good thing you have that strap across the back.

This tree had been over for a time, the limbs were so high in the air, in a tangled mess that I felt it was safer to cut much of them out from the top down, so that's why I had the apple box along,

There's still quite a bit of firewood on the ground too... from what got cut out from high up...

Next I need to pick that up and get it all split!

BTW: MANY years ago when I bought that wagon box, it was in good enough shape to hold grain! It's sad to see how I've treated it, but EVERYTHING around here gets used for it's best purpose, or it get's sent down the road!

Well I didn’t get a photo, but I used the tractor with forks to move my racks around. I need to build more racks!!!

Man that hickory has 3 million more btu then sugar maple. Never burnt it before but I would like to give it a try. Great data shet .

How is the firewood business?

It would seem in an area with lots of trees there would also be competition?

Tried to get my nephew started to make some extra money when he was 15... they have lots of oak just sitting around the ranch... and brought out my splitter for him to use... no one thought it was worth the effort.

Every year Mom and I will go out and do 2 cords for them... she really enjoys it and they do burn when it is allowed... nice toasty family room from the small Lopi stove... it only takes short lengths because it was the smallest model they made at the time... but it really puts out the heat!

The firewood business here has a lot of competition. You can't make any money by cutting good trees to sell for firewood. All of my firewood comes from a different source.

There was a time... especially in the 70's when friends and neighbors were always offering my folks to come in and remove storm fallen oak trees... all they had to do is say yes.

That has not been the case in 25 years and if you were to suggest it the response could very well be negative.

Still doesn't stop the markets from selling 1.5 cu ft of firewood from $12 a box... just enough for a little fire on Christmas...
