Never much on driving around with my pants unbuckled, much less getting out of the truck like that. As far as driving with my shoes off, been there done that. I would wear tennis shoe most of the time, or boots. I tend to wake up a little when I remove my shoes, not sure why, but running the long hours I did, whatever works is what you do. A lot of today's drivers are a new breed that doesn't really dress all that well to start with, so showing up to a shipper or receiver in flip flops and sweat pants and a T shirt... nothing new to them. I wouldn't be caught at work in my yard like that, much less going to work where I meet people. It is "home" but there is still having pride in your appearance.
Jcoon, welcome to the sight, probably not easy for you to join and admit your employment. I understand it is your job, and if I do mine, all should be well. Keeping the motoring public safe is both of our goals, despite how they treat us.

Exactly sandman. That’s the main objective.

This is wrong according to the federal regs, 49CFR. We go by rated or actual weight. If you weigh over 26,001lbs you need a class B, if the trailer weighs over 10.001lbs you will also need a class A.

There is NOTHING about a 36,000 gross weight.

There doesn't have to be. Better read it more closely. The law states class A is a combo over 26k where the trailer is over 10k. It states a class B is where the power unit is over 26k with no trailer or a trailer less than 10k. It then calls class C by definition vehicles that don't fit Class A or class C definitions. If your truck is exactly 26k and your trailer is exactly 10k you are not class A because your trailer is not OVER 10k, and you are not class B because your power unit is not OVER 26k.

Federally and in most states yes but a few states do require a different class for trailer over 10k even if combo under 26k. What a lot of people don稚 know is you can drive a 36k gross rig with a regular license in most states and federally. If the truck is 26k (not over) and the trailer is 10k (not over) you do not meet the definition for class A or B.

If you would take the time to read what u posted, you are talking about some 36,000 lb magically number.

I see what your talking about, a 36,000 COMBINED weight.

I said this many post ago.

Yes in my post I said "you can drive a 36k gross rig with a regular license in most states and federally. If the truck is 26k (not over) and the trailer is 10k (not over) you do not meet the definition for class A or B"

This is what you quoted and said was wrong.

I said it was wrong because all you said was. 36,000lb rig, to most truck driver people that means the tractor alone.

This is exactly what I posted.
What a lot of people don’t know is you can drive a 36k gross rig with a regular license in most states and federally. If the truck is 26k (not over) and the trailer is 10k (not over) you do not meet the definition for class A or B.

I guess there could be confusion if you only read the first sentence but the second sentence explains it. If I would have added the word combo between gross and rig it would have been more clear I guess but I think I reader could see what I meant as is.

I have nothing against farmers I grow crops and raise cattle myself and have trailers with farm plates but the whole ag exemption stuff is a bunch of crap. If the DOT laws are for safety on the roads shouldn’t all vehicles in the same weight class follow the same guidelines? I truly don’t understand the logic of it. The DOT rules are overreaching and should be cut back for everyone but exempting certain groups is just dumb. It is the biggest hypocrisy with them saying group a has do to do this in the name of safety but group b doesn’t have to.

All I can figure is there some type of ag lobby that fights against them stuffing these regs down the farmers throats but everyone is in favor of putting more regulations on other types of businesses.

most of the rules are just to get money, my guess is public safety has little to do with a lot of the emplimation of the rules that are out there, it is control and to confiscate your moneys, in taxes, fees, and fines,

for example If i had a old 1950's ford F500, and only gets about 100 miles year on mostly country dirt roads,
it is my understanding the feds would want me to have a DOT number for it but it doesn't to need to be posted on it, all they want is my money the DOT number makes no one safer, for over 50 years it "did not need a number" so how does it make the old truck safer now with a number,

I’ve never heard of an exemption for displaying your DOT number, I would say it still needs to be displayed.

And in NY, you wouldn’t pay any money for anything because your INTRAstate. I don’t know about CO.
