So just for everyones edification. Thought I would share some of the quotes I have received.

Morton was 50 a sqft. fully installed
PBS, A reputable steel company wants 31K for a 50X50X16 raw building
PBS as well did a 60X80X14 single pitch with a loft that was 96K raw building
Metal Building outlet was the cheapest metal building at 25,674 for a bare bones 50x60X18
Worldwide Steel, whcih is a truss company, offered a 60X50X18 Asymetrical for 33K but I needed to purchase all the wood for the purlins and gerts and fronts
A local builder has offered me a 50X40X16 Single slope PoleBarn compelte without electricity or plumbing for 68,000
Another local pole builder who is very good offered me a 50X60X16 conventional pitch for 61K built (no concrete or doors).
My neighbor says he will erect a steel building for 15K (his cost and he is a friend)
I have concrete for a 50X60 steel running at 20K.

The guy who is all in at 68K I have askedfor him to give me a 45X72 quote. I am hoping he hits around 75K and then we will probably pull that trigger.

Thanks for the update. Sounds as if you're having fun. Just remember, 5 years from now you won't remember spending the bucks, you'll only be appreciating the barn - DO NOT forget to insulate the ceiling, you will regret it if you don't.

No, I am not having fun. My problem has been getting to the bottom of information, and worse, trying to understand in this day and age why the discrepency in price is so severe. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has a quite different quote. If the quote was 3K apart, we could talk, but we are 30K apart in some cases, In the case of morton over 100K apart. And then I talk with "experts" who just muddy the water further. Initially I was excited over the prospect of a new shop. Now I just want to move on.... I have a 30X30 carport and if it wasn't for it being right next to the house I would just enclose it and call it good.

Where are you building? I have a friend in Northern CA that builds barns.

I hear you. Options can be a PITA, especially when they make little sense. Just remember, no matter which way you go, you will eventually find things you would have done differently.

A neighbor asked my advice on the weekend. He has a 20 X 40 pole building built in the 80s. He wanted to put a concrete floor in it and discovered poles rotted right off at ground level!

I suggested demolition and have a crew build a new building (right, this time) in a day. Problem is, he has solar (microfit) equipment on the roof!

Pay me now, or pay me later as they say.

BAD ADVICE!
Absolutely do NOT destroy the building.
That situation is totally repairable.

Just for kicks I did the dealer finder and no Morton on the West Coast...

Looks like California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada don't have Morton.

That is a shame, because although Morton may not be the cheapest, they are truly a class act in everything they do.

That's not an apples and oranges comparison. It's more like apples, oranges, mangos, kiwis and kumquats.

There is no "local" mortons but there is one in Spokanne. That is the rep I spoke to.

Yes, you are absolutley right it is a mish mosh of requests. Our deal is that we are in the midst of starting a home build and that house will be a modern, glass, steel, concrete design. We didn't want to put up a shop that was just another green box... So I did a lot of "design" work with various builders. What was frustrating was that most of these guys are cookie cutter and you ask for one thing "out of the norm" and it costs $$$. When I put the screws to the people, asking to explaing why something simple would double the price, none of htem had answers. I think there is an assumption that inovative architecture also involves crazy costs. We are working through that right now on our house.

Anyway, I digress. Yes, there is a lot of "all over the place" in terms of what I requested a quote for. I have not included many others that came in. Although I willl say the one that left me speachless was the quonset hut who wanted 100K for a 50X60.

Oh, my location is just north of Portland on the WA side. About 20 miles from the bridge and more or less just off the 5.
