I inadvertently put a dose of "Stable" (gasoline storage stabilizer) in a five gallon can of Diesel. Will that damage the diesel engine in my tractor if I use it?

I doubt that tiny amount of Stabil will do anything to hurt (or help) your diesel fuel. If you are concerned, however, simply get another 5 gallons of clean diesel and an empty 5 gallon can - pour half of the clean diesel and half of the Stabil contaminated diesel into the empty can. Then pour the remaining 2.5 gallons of clean into the stabil contaminated diesel and repeat the process one more time and you will have halved the amount of the Stabil in your diesel fuel.

Should be alright If you have another 5 gal can put half in it then add more fuel to the cans to dilute it .

The old Stabil said it was okay for diesel at about half the rate as for gas. Since then, Stabil has a special diesel formula and their gas version no longer carries the rate for treating diesel. Here is an older post on this same subject in TBN.

I used to put Stabil in diesel that went unused over the winter, before I knew better.

It never caused any problems.

Yep, Before Stabil started doing specific mixes to target environments, it was for gas or diesel. So your just fine, you just may not be getting any biocide with the gas only formula.

The general product is all similar, it is how they dress it up with unique additives for different environments that changes. Pour it in and go to work. All is going to be A Okay.

The dose for five gallons is what one ounce? Diesels are pretty resilient unless you are talking about these modern pickups with their fragile fuel pumps. On things like a tractor I doubt one ounce of pretty much anything would hurt much. No I wouldn’t recommend an ounce of water or battery acid but you could put an ounce of oil, gas, transmission fluid, stabil, sea foam, cooking oil, WD-40, hydraulic fluid, whatever and I doubt it would hurt anything.

I would ask that question to the manufacturer. They will probably tell you the same thing which everybody else already has though.
