Yah this poor 殿stronaut (read actor) was about to spill the beans when they drummed up some totally bogus charges! Do we really believe she wore a diaper for days? So many rounders are hanging on every word that come out of the tv or news.....
NASA Astronaut Lisa Nowak Charged With Attempted Murder in Bizarre Love Triangle | Fox News

I wonder if you are being funny and poking a hornet nest to hear how it buzzes or you really mean it. If you mean it, please buy an airplane ticket and look out of window. Or Google GPS and read about GPS navigation. We all know it works and we also know how it works. It requires satellites orbiting the Earth.

There is no point in arguing with a "flat earther". Nothing we say or know personally would sway them. What I want to know and find somewhat disturbing is the fact that the flat earth bunch is growing exponentially in number. It is estimated that now up to 1/3 of all millennial's now believe the earth is flat. And yes he truly does not believe that satellites of any kind exist. Yes he believes the sun is some sort of "spotlight" whose rays travel over the surface of the flat earth. Yes he actually believes that. Yes, he believes that the spherical earth is the longest running and largest conspiracy every foisted on mankind.

I see this growth in the number of flat earthers as a form of mental illness. A rejection of technology and learning and an adoption of conspiracy theories as a way of life. Since you and I have now both spoken out in favor of a spherical earth, he probably believes we are part of the "big lie". I pointed out to him that I have talked thru and tracked various Amateur Radio satellites for many years didn't cut any ice with him. He didn't want to hear about Keplarian motions and tracking software. He didn't want to hear about how I upgraded even my first old IBM PC with an 8088 processor by adding a 8087 math co processor so I could calculate the orbits of a particular amateur satellite called OSCAR 10 (Orbital Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio) much faster. He just denied the existence of Amateur Satellites and all satellites for that matter. Even though you can look up and see the largest satellite of all: The moon. He didn't mention what all those other little things you can look at traversing arcs in the night sky are. I don't know how they explain those.

Anyway, I have wrote another "rant" and it won't change a thing in their minds.

It is failure of US school system. It is the result of parents having to much to say how schools are run and what they teach. I was sick and tired to listening to some of them when our kids were in HS. The worst part was that there was not anybody in authority position to tell them to shut up because they were stupid.

Mental illness? Your ancestors must have been insane because they believed the earth was flat. Just because one person believes something different than you do doesn’t make it a illness.

A Third of Young Millennials Are Confused About This Incontrovertible Fact

Overall, the results suggest that 84 percent of Americans believe the world is round. Five percent said they always believed the world to be round but have recently become skeptical. Two percent said the world is flat. Another 2 percent said they always thought the world was flat but have recently become skeptical. And 7 percent just weren't sure.

"Young millennials," or those ages 18 to 24, were the most likely to exhibit round-Earth skepticism, with only 66 percent firm in their belief in a spherical world. For comparison, 94 percent of those 55 and older think the world is round, as do 85 percent of 45- to 54-year-olds, 82 percent of 35- to 44-year-olds and 76 percent of 25- to 34-year-olds.

........

The geography of religion

The most predictive demographic factor that explains flat-Earth belief appears to be religion, the YouGov survey suggested. According to the results, 52 percent of those who said the world was flat also called themselves "very religious," a descriptor that only 20 percent of Americans as a whole use for themselves. Another 23 percent of flat-Earth believers called themselves "somewhat religious," while 25 percent said they were either not very religious or not religious at all.

It’s the result of the society in general. People now a days need to be more open minded, more accepting of other people that have a different skin color, LGBT community, different religions etc.

Mix in all the fake news, corruption of politicians and general lack of trust in government and it results in people questioning what they believed to be true.

Every persons reality is their interpretation of the facts they have before them, only lazy people believe what’s been told to them without finding out for themselves.

I would not call it mental illness...people with a mental illness have an excuse...people that refuse or are incapable of realizing physically obvious facts are simply "stupid"...it can't be fixed like ignorance can...

Do you think that I fall into that classification? Do you really?
