I was looking for a tractor that had adequate power for forest management, fallow field reclamation, hay field maintenance and property management, but was easy to operate for those in my family that were new to utility equipment. While I have not had the tractor long enough (nor has the ground been dry enough) to do projects in each of the area, I have been happy with the YT359 so far. In the woods it is very maneuverable and manages the hills and slopes I have. The loader's reach and capacity exceed my expectations. My wife and daughter were able to use the tractor for loader work with no prior experience.
When comparing tractors, I was attracted to the reputation of Yanmar's engines and overall quality, and I felt the controls were intuitive for novice users, which has been confirmed. I have been impressed by the ground clearance and my "ag" neighbors have commented on how "beefy" the frame and structure is. I have not been disappointed in its performance in any way.
There are some nice touches such as the fuel fill being at step level and not at cowl or seat level. I was a little concerned that the hydraulic pump capacity of the YT359 was a little lower than what I would have liked. However, I have found the loader to be very responsive and considering my uses, I no longer think about this.
I was not able to find service information or parts diagrams for the YT tractors similar to what is available for other tractor brands/models, so I understand I will be more dependent on the dealer than I have been with other equipment purchases. However, I went from rebuilding cars (engines and all) in my youth to now taking the car to the shop for all but the simple maintenance. I also feel that electronics and computerized equipment provides more performance and reliability than mechanical controls. This can be a controversial position in the heavy equipment/ag. world, and I appreciate that when electronics die they are dead. That said, personally, I am more interested in spending my time working the equipment than working on the equipment.
