Are we humans going to move in the direction of devolution, de-evolution, or backwards evolution? I have to wonder....
Devolution (biology) - Wikipedia

I suppose it's possible, but it would take some sort of drastic environmental change that would favor a more primitive man. Mankind has progressed for several reasons; one is because of his adaptability. He has been able to adapt to harsh ice age climates and to hot rain forest environs. Living in groups and creating culture; making tools, cooking and eating meat; his dexterity and intelligence allows him to adapt admirably. He can kill a gazelle with a bow an arrow or a spear; or he can climb into a rocket and land on the moon. It all originates from his tool making ability; safety in a group setting, and solving problems because he had to in order to survive.

I’d agree with this. Look back at the things that have been said about folks who don’t agree with them. Seems the supposed “smart” ones are like Berkeley- FREE SPEECH.......well as long as you say what they think. Let’s see who’s knuckles are really closer to the ground. Mine measure 3’2”- I’m sure that puts ME in the top 1% of the evaluation hierarchy! Unlike some of the Neanderthals with keyboard courage around here....

We are in evolutionary bind. We are smart enough to create all this technolgy but we are not smart enough to sove the problems associated with it.

It's called "cultural lag". It's not that we aren't smart enough, it's just that solving the social and cultural problems that accompany technology take too much time.

I think the real problem is most lawmakers are lawyers. Lawyers are trained to argue while ingeneers are trained to solve problems.

When I was practicing law, I found that I was the one who was solving legal problems created by the engineers, and most of the arguing I did was with them. In all fairness though, I have worked with doctors, lawyers, Phd's, politicos, scientists and some goofballs. Most professionals, though, will manage to work together as a team.

You best be glad most lawmakers are lawyers.

Nope. I have worked with regulations that were written by non lawyers; they were for the most part a disaster. Don't forget, a lot of statutes and regulations end up in the courts. If you want them to survive, you best have lawyers involved. I have rewritten numerous regulations drafted and passed by non lawyers; they often are not aware of such things as due process, ambiguity, fundamental fairness, etc.
