Flail Mower Ford 907 flail mower

Thanks guys! only issue is the right hand side the bearing let go and the previous owner decided to cut the side of the mower apart to replace it. I ended up having a plate welded on and a different bearing. I guess I should get started on painting it soon or it will be spring and I will be using it.... too many projects and not enough time! :confused2:

Hey gang, Im looking to replace the 861 with a newer diesel tractor with loader. Any idea what HP rating the 907 requires to run? Im looking at a 40hp kubota with FEL.

Thanks!

Thats more than enough power for that flail mower; we ran Ford jubilee with a seven foot John Deere finish flail mower.

Looking for advice. I know some guys here have used Flail mowers. - I never have.

I have been looking for a mower for the back of the 4010 diesel John Deere. An 8' Ford Flail mower popped up tonight.

What do I need to look at? How will it work in tall grass? How do they work in general?

What does it cost to change the cutters? Are they still available?

I am assuming they can be sharpened. How much of a job is it?

I have to find out the model number. What I have gathered so far is 907 light duty, 917 better, 918 garbage

Can anybody look at the pictures and tell what it is?

This is a decent old mower. Everything turns like it should. The pto shafts is junk. I think I have one and if I do I'll include it with the mower. Any questions feel free to ask. We do have a way to load.

I cannot see the picture but if anything your local ford dealer or flail master can sell you the parts needed.

You will not know anything until you look at the flail mower shroud side weldments and smack them with a hammer to see if the welds are still solid(if you know anything about welding its either going to sound solid or hollowed out from rusting and corrosion).

Found it on Craigslist too. Can anybody tell what model it is? They said it was a Ford series 22-I85

You will not know until you get there what shape it is in as it may end up being a winter rebuild project.

Have you looked in tractor house or auction time for a used flail mower?

Looks just like my 917 only wider. Mine has 33 knives. I replaced mine including the hangars and bolts. Somewhere around $300.

Looks like the side shield that covers the belts is missing?

It's real hard to determine value without hands on. There are a lot of things that can be worn out. I'd hafta hear it run or buy it very cheap. Lots of moving parts.

wHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER VERY CHEAP?

The seller did tell me if I did not like it, I could bring it back.

It looked to be in pretty good shape. The belt cover is MIA. When I twisted the PTO shaft, everything felt good.

Take him up on his offer, if you trust him. Pay $300, take it home an use it. If it has catastrophic issues, take it back.

Expect to spend $300-$400 fixing it up. You'll still be in pretty cheap.

When I buy old equipment I expect to work on it getting it in shape. I never put a dollar value on that labor. Beats the crap outta payin $3000 for one. :)
