Kubota Gas vs Kubota Diesel engine option

If the tractor is still under warranty, I would raise this issue with the dealer. The Kubota diesel engine should start much more easily than you describe.

I might do that.

A few days ago it was about 60F. It started on the first try.

I am doing what the dealer told me to do-- key on, wait for glow plug light to go out, then engage starter. There is no manual control of glow plugs, and no intermediate key switch position that I know of to activate glow plugs.

In some places, it can be, or at least used to be, difficult to find gasoline that did not contain ethanol. Now that fuels such as TruFuel 4-cycle engineered fuel are available at hardware stores, auto-parts stores, and big-box stores, getting ethanol-free fuel is much easier, although one will pay for it. A gallon can of TruFuel 4-cycle engineered fuel costs approximately $20 (USD 20).

I have no issues with 10% ethanol 87 octane gas in my 4500 P Ventrac gas. fuel efficient as a diesel will work steep and no carb. FI..... jim

There's more energy in a gallon of "diesel" than there is in a gallon of gas, so I'm not buying that EFI will make your gas engine as fuel efficient as a diesel.

I have a couple EFI gas motors, they work great, but they do not sip fuel like a diesel does.

What ever trips your trigger, and 4500P even has more power and torque and it will work continues steeper. before you make the call better look on Ventracs site. Gas cost less than diesel around here by 50 cents a gallon... jim

I'm talking about a diesel vs gas in the same hp/brand/style... You must be talking only about what is put in a ventrac, IF so, that's a different story...

Perhaps you should have said: "fuel efficient as THE diesel that's in a ventrac".

BTW, I just came from the fuel station. Red diesel is cheaper than regular gas here...

The alcohol used in 'gasahol' is known to cause some rubbers to fail or rot which results in problems.
Newer seals, rubber and synthetic fuel lines eliminate that sort of problem.

I have seen rotted out gummy rubber fuel lines and fuel bowls clogged.
Also alcohol seems to attract water and fuel bowls often show signs of corrosion which may or may not be linked to that fact.

However some owner's manuals for different manufacturers actually spell out the use of hi test gas.

I seem to recall that one fuel company was subject to a class action due to alcohol in their gas some years back.
I think the basis was that they failed to advise the fact.

No experience with a Kubota gas but I like my Kubota diesels way more than my Kohler gas. The diesel is quieter, handles load better and drinks about half the fuel.

Yep. I love my little PT425 with the Kohler 25HP gas engine. I run it at full throttle all the time and it uses about 1.2 gallons per hour and it's loud. Small diesel tractors, on the other hand, are surprisingly quiet and tea sippers when it comes to fuel consumption.

A 4500P is a water cooled gas Ventrac .1 per gal. per hour difference than the Kobota diesel. The gas has more torque and more hp. Diesel here is over 3 dollars a gal..... jim
