I recently sent my pt-425 back to Power-Trac for a main pump replacement. When it was returned, it ran fine so I filled the gas tank and planned to use it on the weekend. When I went to start it I felt fuel on the cuttoff switch. Eventually, found that the tank bottom port that holds the elbow had a crack in it. This is a dangerous situation that could have caused a fire if I had actually used the tractor. I know there was no leak when I sent the tractor to PT for repair. I assumed this happened during the dismantling of the engine compartment to replace the main pump.

Terry was not sympathetic and said it probably happened during transport. He would not replace the tank unless I paid $248 plus shipping for a new tank.

Dose anyone know of where an alternate replacement might be found? There are no manufacturer's part numbers or any numbers on the tank?

find a welder with experience welding gas tanks, it will be much cheaper!.. do that after contacting the Power-Trac corporate office about this problem, which is clearly the fault of the servicer!..

I think it's a poly tank, not metal, but could be mistaken.

Oooooo that rubs me the wrong way. How would shipping damage the bottom of the gas tank that's enclosed under the engine compartment cover? Even if they opened the cover and ran a strap under the cover, it couldn't get to that fitting. Grrrr....

Yup, its a poly tank. I wish it were metal.... I saw it being strapped down on the trailer. The crack did not occur during shipping. Very disappointed in PT quality control. This thing could have burned up with me on it.

Sounds pretty ridicules to blame the damage on shipping, especially since you have to remove the tank to get to the pump. Somebody probably broke it when taking it out or when it was out of the tractor.

My Dixie chopper burnt which was caused by a fuel filter coming loose. I wish they would do better than a rubber line and spring clamps for fuel. Especially when the carburetor is mounted directly above the muffler.
