Oil & Fuel Safe to use diesel from a pickup transfer tank in a new tractor?

How do you think big operations get fuel in their equipment?

4570, depend on the operation. at work we have the oil guy fill our machines right off the delivery truck. he drives through the pit and fuels everything twice a week.

Even so, you are still getting fuel from a transfer tank. The delivery guy fills his truck from the big storage tanks at the bulk retailer's location. These are in turned filled from tanker trucks that are filled at the refinery. So by the time you get it from the bulk retailer, it has already been thru at least 2 transfer tankers.

I store my fuel in a bulk 275 gallon plastic TOTE tank and transfer it to my 100 gallon steel tank as needed. From there it is pumped via a Filrite pump with a 10 micron filter straight into which ever vehicle needs it. I have never had any issues with algae, water or trash in the fuel.

And since driving the tractor to the fuel station isn’t a likely option then you’re going to use a 5 gallon can.

100 bucks says your transfer tank, if properly cared for, is cleaner than the tanks at the service station.

Nope. I use 55 gallon steel drums that I've had for maybe 25 years. Have the Goldenrod water absorbing filter right after the pump, where the hose connects. I keep them sealed and buy from a dealer I know has high turnover. I use Power Services snake oils to ensure the storage tanks and injectors stay clean.

It all comes down to the history of your fuel supply. If you have good filtering and no water issues, go for it. If you've had problems with stuff growing in your fuel or dirt/rust, then, fix it before using the fuel.

To that my answer is "Nope". I then explain what my "transfer tank(s)" consist of in case somebody else likes the idea and has or can get the resources....or pay the big bucks for the commercially made tank.

So your barrel isn't a transfer tank?
