I dont know how young people with families can afford to buy groceries these days, for just my wife and myself we spend around
$200 a week for groceries and its's mostly just dairy products, vegetables, drinks, and breads were getting. I raise my own beef and get seafood and everything else from local markets, pet food at the feed store and bulk items like soap and paper products from Costco.
To be honest, I don't know how you can spend $200./wk.??

We eat good around here, and between my wife and myself, we spend about $45.00 per week...and that's pretty much everything! Food must be expensive where you live!

We do have a garden and eat more pork than any other meat, chicken is next, and we tend to go out to eat once a week...

I think food is expensive here but I just spent a week visiting my daughters in Phoenix and the other up in Bend Oregon and the grocery prices were much higher in both of those places.

I'm lucky that I have some friends that offer me in on their cows when they have them butchered. I trust them as they use their cows for their own food.

Christmas present to my inlaws was 100lbs of assorted steak cuts (including hamburger) as I just picked up some meat.

Meat is good.

I can tell you from getting cows from different farmers, the butcher makes all the difference in the world per cuts.

There is something to be said for Beef Stroganoff when you know the meat is from down the road!

IMO it is always respectful to give thanks to that animal which gave it's life so that you can be fed:thumbsup:

Discounting that once a week outing it is still 40 meals/week between the 2 of you or $1.10 per meal …….now that's frugal, Bird is like an ogre next to you

The butcher DEFINITLEY makes the difference. I was buying a pig from a local farmer who was trying different places; one year the butcher he tried also made Christmas wreaths. When I found fir spiles sliced up in my bacon I decided it was time to do thing differently, now I raise my own. I'll admit that it's a bit tough to load the pigs onto the truck which the dog has been playing with all summer, or the turkeys that have been following me around the yard for months; but it reminds me where the meat came from. For a week after the pigs left last year my pup kept going out to the pen to see if they had come back, even though he was there when we dropped them off at the slaughterhouse.

For a family of 4, for everything including food and drinks along with household items, $200 a week is easy IMO.

My one boy will eat spaghetti for breakfast (at his moms dismay), make a couple of ham sandwhiches for lunch, and then eat 3 hamburgers for dinner looking for more. They both aint fat by any means either LOL

Well, you made me curious, so I just checked what we've spent so far this year, and it's a little less than $100 a week, and we do not raise any of our groceries anymore.

I want your spreadsheets for a museum piece!

And I can also remember when one of the reasons I ate so much shrimp was because it was so cheap. That sure has changed.

Chicken wings, too! The used to be the cheapest thing out there. Now, with the advent of wing restaurants, they are priced out of sight.

Wife and I eat out maybe 8-10 times a year. We fill the freezers with about 400 lbs of assorted beef and poultry to the tune of about $1100. The other freezers are full of fruits and veggies. That leaves fresh produce, dairy, bread and condiments for a monthly trip to the store. Food prices where I live are outrageous so we tend to keep the pantry full and well stocked. We could survive a year or so with the food on hand. We vacuum seal and rotate to help preserve quality.
