Tractor
International 254
Hello all; I'm a happy new owner of an International 254 tractor w/ 469 original hours and the Mitsubishi 3 cylinder diesel engine. Overall, the tractor is in excellent condition and the only thing I've replaced thus far are the tires. The original Firestones were horribly dry-rotted. The only piece that doesn't seem to work is the hazard function of the turn signals and one headlight but I have the headlight bulbs on order and will have to dig in to the hazard switch to troubleshoot with a multi-meter.

My real question is related to the tractor operation, servicing, and engine servicing. I'd like to find manuals for both tractor and engine but my web searches are leading me to links that look really suspicious and I don't particularly want to click into websites that might lead to a virus or ransomware. Can anyone point me to a reputable site(s) for purchasing manuals?

Also, I am in need of a radiator cap for the tractor but there are no pressure specs on the cap itself and the only number stamped on it is 0.9 with some Japanese characters. Does anyone know if this part is easily cross referenced to a standard auto radiator cap from Autozone, Advance, etc... ?

0.9 stands for 0.9 Bar

FYI: 1 "bar" is approximately the air pressure at sea level. 1 bar = 14.50377 psi (a).
so:
.9 bar = 13.0534 psi.

Ah, good information and I never even thought to try and convert from bars of pressure; thanks!

The only replacement I could find that matched the original was from BatesCorp at $86.00 ... Not ready to drop that much coin on a radiator cap!

Will go at lunch to see if I can find a suitable replacement at the local auto store.

Does anyone have a good source for service manuals?

Hello and welcome.

The only manuals I am finding for it are books you would need to buy. Fairly cheap though $25-$35. Seems like it'd be worth it.

Yeah, I don't mind paying for them if they are good quality and not just someone pressing pages down on a flatbed scanner, and the books are not linked to some eastern-bloc country for file downloads...

I found a radiator cap that fits and is rated at 13 psi, like the original. Bought some sheet metal to replace the corrosion underneath the battery box, and sprayed some rust-stop on all the metal surrounding it.

I'm off to the local Agri-Supply this weekend to shop for some accessories and implements to make life easier around the farm; can't wait to get started!
