110 tlb Problems

I also have a 2005 110 and have the PA30 on the hoe which is what Deere recommends. The rear hydraulics have 16 gpm as opposed to the 12 gpm for the front couplers. That said the PA30 turns rather slow (about 50 rpm) imo. Still drills a 12" hole within 15 seconds in most of my uses.

Going uphill with a 110 in C range will definitely slow the tractor to a crawl, but should not stall the motor. I backoff the forward pedal to maintain 2400 rpm on the tach. Mine weighs about 8000 lbs with the Laurin cab so I would expect it to slow down on grades.

Welcome aboard jd110tlbfan! You may want to start a new post for your #7 concern; "Tractor loses power and dies when going uphill" That is something I would want to address, and not leave at the bottom of a longer post on a 5+ year old thread!

From what I understand, several people have issues with the turn signal switch. I ended up getting one off of ebay as N.O.S. for less than 30$ with shipping, but it had a case/international part #, not a jd # cutting the cost in almost half! That switch is used in ALOT of tractors/ full size backhoes, and even harvesters!

What is the case/international part # of your replacement turn signal switch?

had to go way back on ebay history, but my switch part # was 1987422C1 . now when I google it there is an updated # of 87271837, but messicks site says that the 837# is the newest # and replaces all of these #'s

so I make no promises, but I would think that any of them should work. again no promises, and if the price is very close (was not in my case) just buy the deere part.

any updated info on the stalling issue when going uphill?

Any update on the uphill stalling issue. Mine does the same and now it wont even keep and idle.

If you are asking the OP mikeyp for an update, suggest you send him a PM as he has not been active since 2008.. but what he learned may be of interest to other TBN members as well. Good luck making contact.

If our worn out 1983 JD 310B did not still work well I would like a 110 backhoe. There was one for sale locally but they wanted nearly $20K for it. I do not know their cash value. I guess JD dropped them for some reason good in their minds.

@dids15p - Yes, I solved the uphill stall problem. It turned out to be user error once again. The fuel shut off valve near the top of the fuel filter has two positions labeled: O and l. I got them confused as to whether "O" stood for "On" or "Off" and whether "l" stood for "Closed" like a choke or on. It turned out that I had been operating the machine with the fuel value in the off position for all that time. It apparently lets enough fuel through to be able to operate the machine just fine on flat ground, but when going uphill it would cause the machine to die. Flipping the fuel switch to the other position immediately solved this problem.

I've had my 110 TLB model number LV0110T21XXXX for almost a decade now and I love this tractor. It has been very reliable and problem free. I purchased it new and have less than 1000 hours on it. Here are the issues I've had over the years:

1) Broke hydraulic hose connector fitting on backhoe dipperstick. Operator error...raised the stick and bumped it into a horizontal log. I replaced the fitting and hose with a new one.
2) Battery leaked acid into the battery box, pealing paint and starting rust. Probably also operator error letting the battery freeze and/or recharging with battery charger too quickly. I cleaned it up and repainted it.
3) Hour meter reset to 0 after about 200 hours.
4) Turn signal switch is temperamental. Sometimes it doesn't work or lights stick on rather than flash. Punching the side of the area below the switch with my fist usually fixes this.
5) Difficulty getting hydraulic lines attached to front auxiliary hydraulics. Operator error...didn't follow the procedure in the owners manual which left pressure in the implement and/or tractor.
6) I bought a used Bobcat 30C auger (skid steer mount) that turns pretty slow even at full throttle RPM...almost too slow to knock the dirt off the auger to clean it. I assume this isn't really a problem with either machine, just that the auger requires higher flow rate for optimal operation than the 110 TLB auxiliary front hydraulics produce. It works okay, it just is slow and requires full throttle. Can someone with a PA15 or PA30 comment on how theirs operates?
7) Tractor loses power and dies when going uphill - maybe 50% of the time. I think this started happening after the last time I changed the fuel filter, so maybe operator error as well. I can back up a hill just fine, but if I go forwards up the hill it often dies. Doesn't matter if I have a full tank of diesel or a nearly empty tank. Doesn't matter if I go up the hill at idle or full throttle, though if I let off the peddle soon enough I can avoid it dying sometimes. It might happen more frequently after running the tractor at lower RPMs for a while. If I run it at high RPMs for a while it seems less likely to die going up slope. It has been this way for a year or two now. I haven't yet tried re-installing the fuel filter, but I plan to next time I do maintenance because I assume there must be an air pocket or something causing this. Has anyone else had this problem, know the cause, or know the solution?

Mine doesn't have auxiliary rear hydraulics or seventh function on backhoe. So that I can operate the hydraulics on my 4-basket tedder, I routed one new hydraulic line from the front auxiliary hydraulics to the back which seems to be working fine and the routing seems to be okay as a permanent solution - not really getting in the way of anything.

my hour meter just reset at 31xx hours, any ideas what causes this? i seem to have lost a 0 on the display as well. I was just curious if anyone else has had this issue or why?

The issue I had with going up a hill and dieing out was the set screw that hold Petcock in place. The set screw was loose and not seated which allowed the o ring on the fuel petcock to suck air causing this issue
