Winter Clothing

What are you guys wearing for snow blowing without a cab? (Yes I didn't buy a cab because I also mow with the tractor) I'm thinking of the Carharrt Yukon Jacket & Bibs or Coveralls.. I live in the northern tip of NY... pretty much southern Ontario, Canada... It gets **** cold and we get snow!

I wear Schmidt insulated bib overalls with thermal shirt and carhartt jacket, work boots or mukluks, insulated gloves and hat. Not as comfy as heated cab but I never did have one of those.

My "break point" is zero degrees F. Warmer than zero - - thermal underwear, Carhartt jacket, Carhartt pants, Muck boots, leather mitts with wool liners, wool stocking hat.

Below zero - I'm retired, I will reconsider even going outside. If I go - Eddie Bauer down pants, Eddie Bauer down jacket with down hood, Eddie Bauer down gloves, Kamic insulated boots.

When its below zero - I SELDOM go outside for fun and recreation - it had better be a quite serious situation.

It VERY SELDOM blows when the temps are zero or below around here. Above zero - Kattie, hold on to your hat!!!

I just bought a cab this year so I no longer have to go outside like the stay puff marshmallow man. Since I live on top of a hill/mountain, we get crazy cross winds in the winter. In addition to the insulated overalls that everyone else wears with thermals and boots/gloves, I also was wearing a balaclava and a knit/woven hat over top of that. The balaclava keeps my face from getting wind burnt or frostbite.

I recommend goggles in addition to warm clothing. I have 2 pair, one with a tinted lens for sunny conditions and one with clear for evening plowing. If the wind is blowing while you're plowing or blowing you will thank me. Any cheap insulted coveralls work for me. A good ski mask and neck cover is a must also. I usually have a pretty good sweat worked up by the time I get back in the house.

I’m generally not a cab tractor fan, but I don’t blow snow either. Have you looked into a temporary soft cab?

I wear a heated cab on my tractor when pushing snow in winter. I also wear an A/C cab while mowing in summer.

If I have to be outside in winter for any real length of time, then it's Carhart expedition grade insulated bibs and hooded jacket. Also a wool knit baklava for face, and expedition grade gloves on hands.

Yeah, it gets cold here in winter. -40 F and winds up to 40 mph, which can kill you if you're out in it too long. Frost bite to exposed skin in minutes (like 2 or 3 min).

But that's what heated cabs are for.

Carharrt Bib Arctic cover- alls, warm insulated gloves and high muck boots, sometimes the attached hood and sometimes a Bomber rabbit fur hat is the ticket for our Adirondack winters here.

I do layers, mostly carhartt. Hooded sweatshirt. insulated bib overalls. Jacket w/ hood. I found the carhartt raindefender sweatshirt have taller zipper to keep snow out of neck. Good boots, socks and gloves. Neck gaiter and glasses for when the wind kicks up.

Open and peel layers as needed as warm up while working.

Couple sets so one can dry while you go back out to battle the evil white crud again.

I know the Potsdam snow and cold. I went to college there. Plus a few more decades of visiting my in-laws. We will be traveling back there in couple weeks to hopefully finish up FIL's estate.

I find some of the sophisticated outerwear not to be that great. A zipper down the leg can be drafty. I like buying used older ski pants which are warm, light and extremely comfortable. No crazy pockets, zippers, flaps, seams, hoops, loops or anything else. And if I ruin them, who cares?

Many years ago, I bought a snow mobile helmet with a heated visor. It worked great for blowing snow. Especially on a 2wd tractor, no chains and inclines. Sometime you could only go down hill and the wind was not in your favor.

I have a soft cab on my GC made by Berco out of Canada, I dislike solid cabs, I like to work out in the open if I can. My cab takes about five minutes to remove and 10 to install (initial install is two hours). I have had it for three years with no signs of wear. It keeps the wind and any snow from my 3pt blower off of me..

OP, I also wear four layers of clothing, Carharrt being my favorite. Bibs and quilt lined jacket, I also wear insole foot warmers.. If you have an interest in the Berco soft cab, the garden tractor size keeps your rops outside and the sub compact cab puts it inside, I opted to keep the rops outside as I see no need to cover it. They cost under $300, the quality is very good.

OP, I sent you a PM with the cab information. If your not interested no big deal I just thought you might want to look them over as a cheap option to wind and snow blowing down your neck.. Your 1025R is pretty much the same size as my GC.

When I was blowing with an open station I wore motorcycle pants and jacket, nomex fire hood, helmet, and ski googles. The helmet was more to keep my head dry, plus it has ear flaps.
I also wired a 12v outlet on my tractor to power heated gloves and vest.
It was a great setup for a few hours outside, but when blowing snow all day I would inevitably get wet. After a huge blizzard that kept me outside for extended periods I researched other gear and decided on a suit made by Occunomix. They are less than $200 and appear to be perfect for snowblowing, but I ended up getting a cabbed tractor instead.

I wear Gortex insulated coveralls. Ive wore them for 20 years for goose hunting and snowblowing.

That’s probably what I would do if I had to blow snow. I also dislike glass cabs. And the soft cab is cheap. Then I’d go to the junk yard and get a heater core so I’d have heat. Or an electric heater if the alternator can support it.

Before I got my cab I wore a snow mobile suit to blow the snow and an old fashioned welding helmet liner. It was so hot I couldn’t wear anything but shorts on underneath. The one I have is at least 20 years old and still working great. Still use it when shoveling the walks on those cold,windy nights.

I live in South Central VA. We don't get much snow here or the real bitter cold of the farther north states. Originally from Norfolk CT. I know what cold is and also a tractor trailer driver of the lower 48 I have been where it gets cold and I have to hand it to you guys who live up there and do what you do for a living. I got myself set of Dickie bib overall and a jacket from up in the Salt Lake City area they are a little over kill for warmth but I have been out plowing for 5-6 hrs. At a time and never got cold. But I think I might get a cab for my GC 1705 due to my cancer which keeps me cold even when it's 80" degrees but if the weather prediction is correct this winter I might get the cab anyways well y'all have fun playing in the snow this winter and most of all stay warm and safe.

Bibb overalls and jacket are great. Carhartts are very good but Berne is almost as nice and much cheaper. The real answer is a soft cab, as recommended by others. I have the Original Tractor Cab. Very effective and easy to take off.
