Glyphosate - related to bee decline

My dad was a bee keeper, and a bee inspector. Mites is what caused a significant decline in bees over the last 30 yrs.

You are absolutely correct. Mites are by far the biggest and in a lot of ways only confirmed cause of bee colony die offs. This mite native to Asia didn't make its way to the US until the 1970's and as time progressed made its way across the continent from probably with the aid bee keepers themselves unknowingly transporting infected bees.

It just occurred to me - I haven't heard any Meadowlarks for a while.

My dad kept bees 25 years ago, had several hives that did well. He would get them out of houses and stuff for people and keep them. He started having to give them medicine for mites and stuff alot. Alot died/disappeared for no reason. He gave them all to a buddy when it got to be a losing battle.

If you put out a hive for them, do you need to maintain it? I'd like to give them a safe place, but I won't be overly active with harvesting honey, etc.

Yes, you need to check, and take honey off, or else they will leave.

Song of Increase: Listening to the Wisdom of Honeybees for Kinder Beekeeping and a Better World By Jacqueline Freeman is a great resource from an awesome woman in regards to more natural bee keeping and if nothing else makes you think of the bigger picture. Very highly recommended.

And the decline of honey bees stopped quite a while back,
I just picked up some honey the other day and that bee keeper and another one told me the decline had stopped several years ago.
And then there is this article,
Believe it or not, the bees are doing just fine - The Washington Post

So you all just keep up bashing advances and improvements.

Yes toxic chemicals are definitely an improvement. Cancer rates are much higher in agricultural areas. Strange, as you would think farming would be a healthy lifestyle.

I guess if you don't want food that has been sprayed with chemicals, meat that hasn't had some sort of chemical added, injected into it, you may just want have your own garden and raise your own meat
