When you pull the head fill the intake & exhaust ports with gasoline to see if they leak prior to removing.
Its unlikely to visually see any issues with the valves without pulling them.
The number of shins under the pump won’t prevent the engine from starting & running they will affect how it runs at full speed.
As far as the generator end I have no idea how they hold up over time, other than the avr which does fail.
Good luck with your project!!

I have a Yanmar clone it's the 189f from china,, It's installed in my generator and i'm having problems i'm hoping you can help with. Last run was Oct2 3 hours out of power all ran fine no problems. Nov. 1st. Did a test run and it wouldn't start, looked at the filter and it looked bad so I replaced it along with all the fuel lines, bleed the lines on the high side of the pump and at the injector to all the air out. When I try to start it will start good and run for 3 sec. then slow down and finely start knocking and die ??? Any help would be appreciated..

Sounds like you have a fuel restriction still I had a colasped line inside once that give the same problem you are telling

All new lines and they are only about 3" long on either side of the filter.. I even pulled the petcock out and cleaned that filter.. I'm wondering if the pump is shot but it bleeds fine???

It def. sounds like air.. {knocking} Does it have an electric shut down on it?? or do u hafta move a cable or lever?
IF its electric or an emergency oil safety switch.. disable/remove it from the system.. THEN give it a try.
If the filters looked bad, then the fuel is sh**ty.. DONT try to run it w/ that fuel.. drain & get fresh..
Its possible the pump is "varnished" from the old fuel..?? Does it ever get to any HI rpms?? or just starts & shuts off..

I have the electric shutdown bypassed , I pulled the pump and it looks good, When I bleed at the pump high side I get fuel, It does come up to speed after bleeding for about 3 sec. then it's chug chug...then dies about 29 sec later..

Fuel, air, compression are the only variables.

It has to be one of them.

A cheap test (if you have one) would be to rig up a 12 volt fuel pump with fresh separate fuel supply.

I'll check everything again,, should I need to prime more than once, maybe there is still air in there somewhere ??

When I got my Yanmar, single cylinder, it had not been run in years and there was no fuel tank. It started almost immediately without me doing anything.

I believe, that I never even put the return hose into the tank. It is just out in the open but never sheds a drop of fuel. Kind of strange!
