Forks Unusual pallet forks

I just bought a used pallet fork attachment. It's old, it's beat up, but it's fine for what I need. However, it has a feature(?) that I've never seen before, and have not been able to find any examples of. Google has failed me on this one. Basically, it's got an upper and lower set of attachment points for the forks. I cannot imagine what you would ever use the upper ones for, other that it has about 1' more reach. Any ideas? See picture. (and please don't tell me that I have the forks on the wrong way. )

You will have a bit more height if you need to place something at the end of the FEL upper reach. Also, maybe the are the right height for some type of pallet, where if you float the FEL that height allows you to go straight into the pallet at the correct height? Just guessing here.

Home made solution for a low lift tractor loader. Probably couldn’t lift stacked pallets off the back of a tractor trailer.

Sometime you just need a little more lift height.

Over 30 years ago I ran spotlight crew for rock concerts that came to local colleges. One show (BOC?) we had to turn the fork truck blades over because they wanted taller staging. I got to ride the forks up to max height to steady the lamp heads and pass it to guys on the staging.

I'd agree, if it was homemade. But it's not, nor has it been modified. It may be old and beat, but what's left of the paint matches everywhere, the welding is consistent, and there is a label on the back for the loads. Clearly a factory label, but no brand information.

Perhaps it was setup for moving cinderblocks where the fork pockets are partway up the stack?

One high fork and one low fork may be useful in the field for putting pallets in a /\ without getting off the tractor.

I would say it’s probably designed for use with two different sizes of forks. They aren’t all the same.

Could be, I have seen the rails anywhere from 8" to 24" apart.

This. There are different classes of forks, the rails are different widths depending on the class.
