Nitrogen In Vehicle Tires?

My wife's last car came from the dealer equipped with N in the tires. I was laughing at the reasons listed in the booklet in the glove box. The part that really got me was they said that since the molecules of O2 were smaller than N, they would seep out of the tires causing a need for constant re-inflation. Air is 78 % Nitrogen as previously stated. Sounds to me it would be easier to just put the air in and let the 02 seep out naturally leaving behind almost pure nitrogen.
Besides, any convenience that Pure nitrogen would provide would be more than wiped out by having to return to the dealer to add nitrogen or check pressures.
Nitrogen is one of the larger molecules in air. The smaller molecule do leak slightly faster, but you probably lose more pressure during the check with the gauge

It doesn't. It's behavior can be described by the very same gas laws as everything else PV=nRT.
The "problem" with air is actually a matter of dryness. If there's liquid water in your tires where they're cold and you fill them to the property inflation, once the tires get hot (especially race-car hot), that water will evaporate and greatly increase pressure.

If you initially fill tires with air, you will get water vapor, which will condense once cold, lowering your pressure, so you'll need to increase cold pressure, etc.

Reality? Doesn't matter much for normal tires. How hot to your tires get? Are you filling your tires with super steamy air? Didn't think so.

And don't forget to change annually as there is a mandatory shelf life. (AKA, best before date)

Just learned that in California, DMV will not renew vehicle registration without proof of nitrogen replacement since your last registration. This new "green" program adds only $34 to your annual vehicle registration.

Evacuation of the old nitrogen must be done by a certified technician in a California compliant service station. This will ensure correct eco-friendly disposal of the old "bad" nitrogen.

I bought a new Silverado about a year ago. A dealer installed option on the truck I was looking at was nitrogen filled tires to the toon of $250 or $300, I don't remember the exact amount. I told them that this is ridiculous and if you buy tires at Costco they are nitrogen filled with no additional charge. They subtracted the fee with no further discussion!

We only use organically sourced "free range" nitrogen in our tires ! You can actually feel the difference when you are driving! We are getting at least a .05 percent increase in mileage! I know its just crazy!

I reckon we have put this nitrogen in tires thingy to bed now.

I fill my front tires with acetylene and the rears with oxygen. You never know when you might need a fire wrench. Been thinkin of filling the spare with CO2 and 25% argon for that rare portable mig calling. My windshield washer bottle has Jim Beam in it.

My windshield washer bottle has Jim Beam in it.

My friend used to turn his windshield washers around, facing forward. He was always irritated about pedestrians jumping in front of his car crossing against the signal.

He called it "don't walk fluid." :D

Reminds me...I found out the hard way, that if you are following too closely behind another car, if they turn on their windshield washers it will cover your windshield.
