So who is paying over $3.00 for unleaded regular?

$1.67 in Nixa Mo. Even here in Branson, which is noted for high fuel prices it is $1.86

$3.16 gal. Prices rise like a rocket but drop like a snail.

Gas is about $1.60 here and diesel is holding pretty steady at $2.80. Diesel peaked at $3.09 this summer. My big block gas ton truck is starting to look more appealing than my diesel truck.

You guys down south don't know how well you have it with regards to gas. Prices here are well north of $3 per gallon for regular. Taxes mostly but... ???

As a student I had a summer job at a tin can manufacturing facility.
(Most boring job ever--putting handles on paint cans)
The wages were so good that most students could buy a brand new chevy convertible at the summer's end.
The Union was very powerful in that the next summer we also had priority on any openings that came up.

That work environment was so awful-- just imagine, a million empty tin cans in chain conveyors rattling all day long with the air a dense fog from all the oil fumes that lubricated every production line, add the dozens of punch presses thumping away as well.
Conversation was enabled by cupping your hands and shouting into one's ears and repeating 2-3 times.

One job was manual ditch digging for a city project at $4/hr with Wed PM off but Sat as a work day.

Th upside was that wages were net as taxes did not exist for students, downside was 3 shifts with the swing shift being my most hated one.

For a couple of weeks I ran a punch press... a big job came in and we were down press operators.

I'm glad I had the experience... even with the stopwatch guys looking over my shoulder a few times... hey, I'm not a press operator but doing the best I can... turns out I was at the top of the Bell Curve but I was glad to get back to my Mill and Surface Grinders.

All of these shops are long gone here... the one I worked for had about 50 employees during my tenure... just about all machinist or tool makers... and one amazing welder.

Mid $1.80's to $1.98 around here.

As I mentioned a few months ago, we were in the Branson area. Your gas prices were about .30 per gallon cheaper than here in Northern Indiana. Looks like they still are. So high prices is in the eye of the beer holder, as they say. :)

If Fed Income Taxes decreased it sure seems like new taxes crept in... especially here in California.

Another difference today is that most, if not all governments (federal, state, city/town) are running much higher deficits than they were 50 years ago, especially Uncle Sam. Tax rates down (somewhat), spending way up. Something got to give sooner or later.

Gas is about $1.60 here and diesel is holding pretty steady at $2.80. Diesel peaked at $3.09 this summer.

Must be nice. Regular is in the low $2.20s here, and for whatever reason it's a good 10-15¢ higher in the southern part of the state, typically it's cheaper there by roughly the same amount. Cross the line into Vt. and it's in the $2.60s. Not sure why the big difference...they're usually a few cents higher, but not this much.

Diesel never really came down here, still $3.10 or so.

We have always had higher prices here in Branson, compared to nearby towns like Nixa and Ozark. I think it is just to rip off our tourists. :)

Well then, glad I did my part!

A couple of times, I bought gas for both our vehicles at the new Denton, TX, Buc-ee's for $1.499 per gallon.

But Walmart has gas pumps at many of their stores; some are Walmart and others are Murphy USA. The Hickory Creek, TX, gas station (a Murphy USA) has had 4 pumps on each side of the office with the 2 pumps on one end having diesel. But all the pumps have had something they called gas station TV; i.e., a loud blaring obnoxious TV running commercials on top of each of the pumps. A few months ago, they shut it down and bulldozed the entire property. I thought something else was going in there, but instead they rebuilt the "gas station"; no more TV, each and every pump is equipped with 3 fueling hoses/spouts; 3 grades of gas, as usual, plus a separate nozzle for E85 gas and another nozzle for diesel. I bought gas there a couple of days ago and it was $1.709 a gallon.
