Why are we still using ethanol?

/ Why are we still using ethanol? #101
We use E10 because it is a favor to the corn farmers from their politicians. Plain and simple. It is NOT environmentally friendly, it's not economically wise, it's a much lower quality fuel but it has been a politically fantastic move.

We the people are, once again, being screwed to the benefit of a few.

What will we replace ethanol with. It has been established that we have sufficient oil reserves to not need to go beyond our borders until 2050 - perhaps even later. All we need do - remove the corn from our gas.

Grind your corn and send it to countries where people are starving by the millions. We are driving on the lives of millions who are dying in foreign countries.

When we switched to E10 my fuel economy dropped by 10%. I'm not sure how that could be called "conserving oil."

Jstpssng - one might even think that's the meaning of E10. 10% less economy I know I certainly have seen no benefits to E10. Then again, I'm not a corn farmer.

How much extra would that really cost?

You gonna be the first to grow corn and give it away at a loss to the rest of the world to eat that can't afford to pay for it? That's never gonna happen.

Seeing how e10 contains just 3% less energy than straight gas, and ethanol free gas costs significantly more than 3% of the price of E10, you're saving money.

Come on Moss - you're smarter than that. The entire ethanol program is a government subsidized project. Any program giving food to the starving will be the exact same thing. It would be government subsidized from beginning to end.

NOBODY wants to hurt the farmer. Both you and I know that will NEVER happen. Just get the DAM corn out of our gas.

You know - if the production of regular gas was as subsidized as ethanol - it would be a whole lot cheaper also.

You are riding a loosing horse - Moss.

I'm starting to think that he's a closet corn farmer. :D

Again, I ask, what are you going to replace the ethanol in gas with, and maintain emissions levels?

As I mentioned, I dislike the ethanol program. It's a waste of BTU's. But I've been using E10 since the 80s in everything I own and have never had an ethanol related problem. There's nothing wrong with the product in and of itself. There is a problem with how it's paid for, I'll agree with that. But there's nothing wrong with the product.
