Just wondering your thoughts on there diesel fuel? I usually buy mine at BP but the new costco sells it.

I have gotten a few 5 gallon cans of it, but likely won't since it has bio diesel in it. I don't have high usage and don't need issues that I have heard of with bio diesel. I have not experienced them yet myself, but have no reason to take the risk.. if I had higher usage, I wouldn't worry about it. one of the daughters offered to get me off road diesel whenever I wanted..

I'm not familiar with bio diesel but i think BP calls there's off road, i don't use it a lot so i take it bio diesel can't sit around long?

How do you know costco uses bio diesel? I see nothing about it on there website and a lot of these gas stations don't really tell you what's in it and i bet if i asked the store clerk i'd get a funny look!

Bio diesel is refined vegetable oil rather than refined petroleum. It's a better solvent than regular diesel in many cases & can cause issues with seals & rubber. It also has more moisture issues than normal diesel. But it also lubricates better than normal diesel by a decent bit.

It's pretty common to have small percentages of bio diesel mixed into regular diesel. Up to 10% or so, at least for summer blends. I think it gells a little easier than normal diesel.

Off-road diesel (or home heating oil, same thing) is diesel with red dye in it to indicate you havent paid road taxes. It might be less likely to have bio mixed in due to the falling temps & the fact it's also heating oil, but that's not a guarantee.

My Toolcat manual says not to use Bio diesel.

Around here all the Diesel fuel comes from the same California refinery and goes into the same tank farm tank. Not sure when or if any different additives are blended in by the different companies using the same fuel.

The Costco diesel pump has the label that says how much it has, I don't recall.

Costco has a web page with a bunch of specs for their fuel. It's more than I can find from local stations.

California diesel has high cetane rating for emissions reasons, but that also increases performance. It probably costs more than lower cetane fuel but less than adding additives to raise cetane.

Since they have high turnover the diesel from there should be fresh and not likely to have water in it.

I use Costco's diesel in my truck when I'm in the vicinity and need at least one of my tanks (18g+19g, typically fill 15-17) filled.
I've used it for a few years, and haven't had any cause for concern.
I don't recall a biodiesel note on the pumps I've used (CA - most often Roseville and a couple times in south San Jose, OR - a couple times in Medford & Eugene if I recall).
