my partner is Chinese and apparently the thing they do over there is when they have finished the day shift, a whole new crew come on and carry on making brand name stuff under a different name, or just same name. Stihl had a big problem with this.

I guess that I'm retarded, as I love my auto darkening helmet. You can weld, chip,, and weld again without taking it off. I also change the setting so that I can use it when grinding or running my torches. I am and always will be a novice; and it helps to be able to see where I will be starting the bead before striking an arc.

Agreed. I’m also a novice, but I have several professional welders as friends/family that wouldn’t trade their auto darkening helmets.

Welding can be like fryin' bacon, some of us will go and do both naked.

I remember brazing up a DIY manifold extension for the panhead and getting a turkey neck of a lifetime. I'd brazed the flanges' fillets to hand-file for looks & paint. So, I used a carbon arc torch (a handy sucker!!) and did the job shirtless for the 80-some F temp.

Of course with a full hood & #7 my face stayed pale, and guys at the bar asked what I'd been hanged for or if Josey Wales had shot the rope to free me. I was 'lobstered' from clavicle to cummerbund. One time was enough.

did he say this is allowed?. because no manufacturer should put up with this, no wonder so many name brand tools are actually junk sometimes!!..

Same here. Not sure why anyone would NOT want an auto-darkening helmet. Like you, I'm very much a novice but one of my neighbors, who's been welding for decades wouldn't use anything else either. Each to their own I guess.:confused3:

Yes, it's the crazy graphics I find somewhat out of place for a working mans tool. Well, maybe not for Jessie James! OK. If you have tats and piercings it's probably quite appropriate. Funny, I don't have a single friend with either, come to think of it. If they have metal in their body it's probably from or by accident.

You have no friends with tattoos? I have 90+ year old relatives with tattoos.

Well I lied. My Lady friend has a dime size tatoo on her ankle and a tiny diamond zit nose thing. I keep asking her, how she could have done such things to her body? Maybe, i should have specified, men friends.
