We once had someone working for us who became a grandmother at 37.

I'll be 55 next month and no hint of grandchildren from either one of ours.

Sure does vary... lots of kids with parent age 15 to 22 with rental property management... then there are the executives and Docs I work with... seems the first child comes as the mother is pushing 40... other professionals typical of our RN would be pushing 30...

There most definitely appears to be a strong economic tie... especially since so many high powered career women pushing 40 around here...

In my grandparents time it was not unusual for the mother to be young... even in their late teens but the father was markedly older...

No grandkids in my future so I am very glad to have my nieces and nephew... and some are interested in family history...

I dated a woman who was a grandmother at 34. She was just one of several I've known who had their first kid at 16. The difference though is that the fathers used to accept some responsibility.

Without going into all the details he did have has time in the public spotlight for boxing as US Heavyweight Champion...

We had a garage boxing "Gym" set up that was very popular with the neighborhood kids... and it was well known that a professional fighter using his fists would be the same as using a gun under the law... lets just say he left the discipline to Mom...

A reporter once asked him had he tried any other sports and Dad said Football... replying he preferred Boxing because when you take a hit you can hit back...

One caveat... boxing back then was no where as lucrative as it was to become... also one of Dad's friends was killed in the ring and that was life changing for Dad... though he kept active with boxing throughout his life... really enjoyed youth sports and enjoyed his time officiating at San Quentin Prison... boy was Mom skeptical at first about San Quentin!

I would recognize the only Heavyweight Champ to ever retire undefeated.

My paternal grandfather died before I was born. He was a hill farmer, seasonal logger, and kind of a neer do well I've been told.
My maternal grandfather was a track repairman for the Erie RR. He also was a "weekend butcher" and a truck farmer with on 2 acres. Many old timers (he died 55 years ago) will tell me about buying produce from him. My brother and I have his Allis Chalmers G.

I would argue that was all about the pressures of society and a lack of (taxpayer) support than accepting responsibility.

I don't really care why, as long as it was done. It was also a lot less common to have a kid out of wedlock, never mind having two, three or more.

Both sides of mine were Farmers. My paternal grandparents were share croppers until later in life they worked at the local cotton mill in Eastman GA (Now closed). Don't know a whole lot about my maternal Grandparents, my mother was murdered when I was 4 years old. Issues kept us apart though I did get to reanimate a relationship with my maternal grandparents before they passed.
