I don't see a 1750 in the Massey line up so might be a 1749 or 1754

The 1750M replaced the 1749. I saw that the website was updated about a month ago. When I bought mine the website didn't show the M series

Massey Ferguson | 17M Series Compact Tractor

To answer your question about the loader hissing sound, I haven't noticed it. I have it here so I'll run it around during lunch and give you an update

The loader should be able to pick up the front of the tractor. You keep mentioning a hissing noise with the loader valve when using the lift circuit. That would indicate that the hydraulic system is trying to go over relief because the loadrr valve spool is partially stroked. Move the joystick handle a little and see if the noise stops. It is very possible is the loader valve lift spool is not fully returning to neutral when the joystick is released and partially going into float when trying to lower loader OR the the cable from the joystick to the loader valve is sticking/improperly routed. Might ask the dealer if they can take a peak at it. I vaguely recall in late 2015 a change was made to the loader valve joystick return spring force (so basically it provided more spring force to let the joystick lever return to neutral when you let go of it). Either way, if its a good deal and you like the tractor I wouldn't shy away from it.

I would definitely prefer the M series since they have done away with DPF system and the regen's. Hope you get a long trouble free service life out of your new machine.

The loader will not pick up the front of the tractor using the loader arm circuit but will easily lift it using the curl circuit. The Massey service manager says that is not uncommon and nothing to be concerned about. They experience the same thing with a lot of the tractors they service.

I have tried moving the joystick a little or a lot and everything between, looking for the sweet spot where there would be no hissing but the hissing is always there, except when lowering the loader, in float and when curling the bucket down. Almost seems like there is a restriction on one side of those circuits. The joystick does stick and doesn't quite return to neutral when released from the loader down movement, only and will continue to hiss until the joystick is manually returned to neutral. That is the only movement where the joystick sticks. All others are fine. I talked to the Massey service manager and he tells me there is a service bulletin about that issue. Didn't ask if the fix was a recall or something I would have to pay for. He also checked the parts diagram and said this joystick was connected directly to the valve, no cable.

I just tried my Massey 1735 and this is what you need to do. The loader WILL pick up the tractor as long as you have the bucket tilted down, It cannot be flat because you run out of stroke on your hydraulic pistons and you will get the hissing sound. I can pick my tractor up with the down position of the bucket control and also the curl function, even at 1200 rpms. Again, the bucket cannot be flat because you have no more stroke left in your pistons.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure I tried the 1749 with the bucket curled down and it would not pick up the front end with the loader arms. I will have to give it another go before I sign on the dotted line.

The tractor I'm looking at makes the hissing sound the entire time the loader is being moved, not just when it reaches the end of its stroke. Does yours do that or only hiss when you hit the end of stroke? Is your loader the DL130?

Ran it in the warehouse and no unusual sounds. Maybe it would be different if it was stored outside

My loader is the 125, but I don't believe the one you tried should always make the hissing sound, mine does not. It only makes that sound when I am out of stroke or I am overloaded. Try tilting the bucket down then move the positioner forward to lift the tractor, it should definitely do it. Even my 23HP Kubota will do it.

Thanks everyone!!

Onionfmr also sent me a PM and stated he worked his 1754 loader today for 2 hours in -17F weather and there were no hissing noises. In fact he has had several Massey tractors and none of them have ever made this hissing sound. He also suggested reconnecting the loader QC's to see if that fixed the issue, as others that have had this issue found that to be a fix. So three Massey owners that have responded, do not have this issue with their loader and my current loader does not make this noise, either.

So consensus is, this is not a normal sound until the end of stroke has been reached.

I'm waiting for the dealer to come back with a trade in value for my tractor and if it's acceptable I will make another trip into the City and try reconnecting the QC's and may take the Massey service manager with me, if he's available, to get his opinion.
