Hello and good morning Bruce, the Zaugg Organization has been in the business of snow removal for a long tine.

I am not sure if that picture is in the United States along the North East Corridor or not.

They use a lot of overhead caternary high voltage power for electric locomotives on the continent and they have to be very careful when clearing snow along these routes and in rail yards as the nose plow of the locomotives push quite bit of snow along the right of way and between the tracks and they have to keep that area open and free of snow to assure the proper grounding of the locomotives and to prevent any ice from building up along the tracks.

The KOMATSU excavator in the picture has 2 sets of railway wheels mounted on the frame that are lowered to the rails using hydraulic cylinders to allow the excavator to ride the rails and use the rubber tires to propel it from place to place doing snow clearing, ditch cleaning or excavating without having to use a work train to move the excavator on a flat car to where its is needed.
If you look closely just behind the stream of snow and below the machine logo on the side the picture shows one of the four leveling jack pad legs on the base from of the excavator that allow it to be stabilized and leveled to do deep excavating as well.

Actually its a high flow hydraulic drive two stage snow caster :^0, no harm no foul.
The cross auger ribbons have serrations on the edges to cut the snow and it kicks up a lot of snow and snow dust.
These units have convex cutting discs on each side rather than side weldments to create the housing.
The worm drive to spur gear gearbox in the center is huge.

It is fun to see them working anyway.

Speaking of exact words, technically, I think this is the only true "snowblower"

Everything else that we typically call a snowblower is probably really a "snow thrower" (or "snow pump"?).
