We live on 34 acres in east central Missouri, with most of it woods. We have noticed several small,2" or less diameter trunnks, that have the bark completely removed from the ground to about 2 feet off the ground. What do you think would be doing this? We have the normal, skunks, coons, armadillos around us. Thanks,Tim

Are they coniferous or deciduous trees? Two winters ago we had some small deciduous trees that were completely stripped of bark, we found out It was the squirrels that had done it. We caught them red handed.

Don't have porcupine, awfully low to ground for deer rubs,we have rubs, this doesn't look like a rub.

We do have tons of tree rats!

My first choice would be porcupines then rabbits and hares, squirrels, voles, raccoons, deer scrapes. From the height of bark stripping I am thinking one of the first 3.

Reading tow653's post I guess one could rule out porcupines.
