Was wondering if anyone has used the aftermarket CAV pumps? If so, what do you think? I need to to pull mine off and possibly get a quote on having it gone through. Need to fix the leaks around the throttle and shutoff shafts and have no problems doing that myself. Can't help but think there is horsepower to be gained by going through the pump and possibly having the injectors pop/flow tested. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I had my pump rebuilt a couple years ago to control leaks. I didn't notice any difference in how it ran so it was working good, just leaking. I can't for the life of me remember what it cost..... Sorry.

I wanted to replace the injectors as well. I spent a couple hours trying to get them out of the head with no luck. Went back to the injector guy and he said remove the head and bring it to him and he'd get them out. Probably destroying them in the process. I haven't done that. I probably should. A malfunctioning injector can destroy a piston.

My tractor runs just fine. Starts good. Smokes under heavy load as all old tractors did. So naturally I'm ignoring the injectors.

Richard,

I pulled up your awesome thread earlier today and I think you spent around $650, but don't quote me on that. I think the aftermarket pumps range from $450 to $650. I would love to find a pump guy like you used here locally, but I don't feel real confident I will find one. Your thread will be very helpful when I go to remove mine. Really appreciate you posting that up! I would love to know what modifications your guy did to ensure longer sealing life on the shafts. If you ever talk to him again maybe he can share the details with you. Take care.

Thanks Justin.

Forgot that I had done a thread. Glad it was useful for you. I'll try to stop in his shop and visit with him about it. Now that I think about it I believe I looked into buying an aftermarket pump. Figured it was rebuilt as well. Decided to use someone local that I trusted.

Make sure to post your progress whatever you decide to do.

I have sent a couple of my customers to those pumps when theirs is un-repairable.. or not financially repairable..
They haven't had any complaints and actually thanked me for finding them a "good deal" vs draining their bank account fixing their old one.

Thanks Richard. I think the aftermarket pumps might be new castings, but not sure. I will definitely post up my experience. If I get an aftermarket pump, I may try my hand at rebuilding my old one. Been kicking around the idea of building a flow bench.

Good deal. Any particular vendor/brand?
