The Incredible Shrinking Package

Has anyone noticed that 5 gallon pails of things like paint, driveway sealer and foundation coatings only contain around 4.75 gallons?

Yup, we got screwed like that bigtime in Canada when we switched over to metric. Container sizes got smaller, and the prices stayed the same as they were before the switch. And to-day, I paid 1.29 per litre of gas, for the cheapest regular grade gasoline.

That happened here when we went metric with fuel, we are paying about $1.35 L at the moment but it will suddenly jump to @1.70, an increase of 35c per litre, pre metric that would be $1.57 per gallon (Imp) and there would be public outrage.

$1.62 per liter for the cheapest here.

And I thought you were cheaper than what we were, diesel doesn't fluctuate as much and is around $1.60.
You can guarantee a price hike whenever a holiday is coming up.

Swallowing such price hikes is how we "help the economy". Profits are 'protected' at the expense of consumer value/$. I'm sure it's true elsewhere than the US.

We Yanks are just setting the bar. Tho' the rules on some are very black and white, rules on the rich (or 'richwanabes' by declaration) are vague and transitory. (Luckily, our leader is always looking out for the individual consumer/taxpayer.)

Not to worry, folks! Before you know it, minimum wage workers will be riding to work at McDonald's in self-driving cars. Technology is for everyone, not just those other guys with 'extra money'. Just shut up and pay for how much better you life is than it was last year. btw, A 'better tomorrow' won't come cheap.

Our minimum wage workers just got an increase to almost $20 an hour, can't really hear much rejoicing from them.
We don't do tips here.
Somehow they get by.

Wow. That seems high for a burger flipper or floor sweeper. That is getting into semi-skilled territory.

That is about $14 in our currency. Still high for unskilled labor, IMO.

I bought a 12-pak of Guinness Stout tonight. Instead of the tried and true 12 ounce bottle they now hold 11.2 ounces.

Still better than a whole case of (insert brand name here) light beer!

Why is it with lght beer you drink one can and pee four, also the urgency and happens on the freeway on the way home.
As for wages, daughter is a nurse and gets about 38 an hour, cops are on about 80k pa, lawyers up to 450 hour, politicians around 200k plus allowances, electrician or plumber about 100 hour.
