KEN - post #10. Don't knock those tiny cell phones. There is an entire generation that would be totally LOST without them. I go into the big city(Spokane). They are everywhere - cell phone in their right hand - following it aimlessly down the sidewalk. Now HERE is a generation that could easily be controlled with the proper malevolent software.

I have a couple cordless drills. Use them around the work shed. I load my generator into the dump bed of my ATP when going out on the property to attack a project. Allows me to use my corded tools endlessly.

Cordless tools simply do not last long enough and are not strong enough. OR they are a very expensive alternative to corded tools I already have.

I usually buy a new tool when I mash my fingers with the old one. Having tools to work with isnt my problem, my problem is I dont have a big enough shop to store the tools and still be able to work in it.
I have went thru a bunch of battery tools. Battery goes dead in a year and its cheaper to replace the tool than buy a new battery. The newer stuff like my 20vmax dewalts seem to be holding up pretty well. I use my battery drill to mix sheetrock mud and even for mixing buckets of concrete. Thats a little harder on the drill than drilling holes. I have a 1/2in impact I used to to remove and replace all 4 tires on my trailer a couple days ago, battery indicater still says it has a full charge. I love the little 1/4impact drill for putting up roofing. I can drive screws for hours on a single charge. The dewalt battery sawsall does a good job, but it eill pull don the battery pretty fast. I have 4 batteries, two big and two little ones, and two chargers, so keeping a fully charged batterisnt an issue. Now finding the tool might take a few mintues sometimes. Drills and 1/4impact might be in the green house, the shop, the basement, or under the seat in the truck. Left it in the back of my gator once and looked for it for an hour, all while driving the gator from green house, to shop, to basement, to truck, looking for the darn thing. What can I say, suffering from CRS and DGAS

Would like to have a cordless bandsaw. Most of my fab work is in the shop so when my HF deep cut let out it's magic smoke, a corded Milwakee replaced it. As for the cordless chain saw, pole saw and trimmer, they're awsome. 40 volt Greenworks, have two batteries, never without enough to do the job. Used to drag out the generator and long cord to trim branches, major pia. Cordless, zip, rip and done. Not going to harvest firewood with cordless, but on the acreage, no fuss, no mess cordless is the answer for the few random cuts neccessary.

Why would someone want a battery powered super heavy duty drill. Regardless of size of battery (assuming it is small enough to carry around on the drill motor), power drain would be enormous with a big drill bit thus limiting it to a very few holes per battery. I have seen a battery powered table saw, but is it worth anything to a professional or even amateur carpenter who makes hundreds of cuts per day. One would still need a generator or permanent power to charge the batteries (or pay a small inheritance to buy extra batteries), so why not just use a 120v saw to start.

I feel pretty confident the battery would provide good run time. That’s the big 60 volt battery. That drill is for big self feed bits and hole saws.

You could probably make them jump out of buildings, just by shutting off the Internet! Not only, no more phone, but no electricity, water, sewage, food, medicine, heat, cold, traffic lights, banks (CASH) gasoline, nothing! Worse, much worse than the stone age, because at least people then, knew how to survive.

One HUGE TRAP! Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket!

The first time I realized that the obsession over using a phone had caused problems. We were building a 180 ft. long Dairy barn and the framing was up including the 40 ft. trusses. the rolls of insulation before decking required wire bracing to hold in place. A young man with wife and 2 children had been hired to install the decking. He could not keep from looking at his cell .those passing the decking for him to align before nailing in place. the nail gun missing the truss seemed he didn't care. finally some one brought up a chalk line so he could nail . then putting the roofing metal .His job was to pull and place the top piece proper put in screw and remove the vise grip connected to a strap then allow the gripe to slide back down for the next 16 ft. metal could be lifted to be screwed in place. He kept trying to open the visegrips with one hand and cell in the other while with screw gun attach metal screw to hold from sliding back off the roof. Decision was to let him go since his mind wasn't on work.
Now 10 years later his wife has left him, children also. and on drugs to point owns nothing and his house looks as if no one lives there.

Blames everyone who tries to help. Still walks around looking at a cell phone.
Some times he is seen with tools but the owner reclaims them . Sherrif keeps him until bailed out then is back on the street again.

The one who dies with the most tools wins.:drink:

Most of them are cut one at a time in the field. A cutting torch is too much work to move around and light every time. I didn稚 have electricity last time although I will next time. My corded saw would probably do a pretty good job. My cordless really suffers under a load like that.

My battery powered angle grinder with cut off wheel is light and quick and way more portable than a cutting torch.

In my opinion we have turned a corner on cordless tools in the last few years. Yes with the older nicad or NiMh technology batteries, that was one level of usefulness, but with the newer high density Lithium batteries we seem to have a whole new level of usefulness and a whole new bunch of tools going to cordless. As battery chemistry continues to advance they will only get better.

I have a lot of tools, and often several versions of each. I saw a report today on the news that only 30 percent of millennial's even own a single hammer. They said over 93% of "baby boomers" own at least one. Heck fire, I own so many I would be hard pressed to count them all. I buy a new tool when I get frustrated with what ever I am "making do" with isn't working to the level I expect of it. Either that or something catches my eye when I am in the store. :)
