Welding Jacket

Now, for summer welding work, I keep a denim shirt in the shop,, (the shirt is short sleeved)
and I use that shirt with these sleeves,,

I can take off the sleeves, and do other non-welding work.

Depends on what kind of welding I'm doing .Tig gloves only.Overhead stick leathers . Mig cotton long sleave t shirt.:drink:

I like the Black Stallion Jacket above. I also have the sleeves and wear them a lot with a suede bib apron. That is when I'm not welding in shorts and sneakers.

This is what I started using after ruining some clothes and catching a old jacket on fire. Air-Gas in town carries them. Same idea as Big Barn's Miller jacket.

Those inexpensive green ones are what I use too.

I also use the leather sleeve version when needed.

...all my long sleeve shirts and most of my work coats have holes in the sleeves and lower front.

Here in East Texas, it's too warm and humid outside most of the year to wear a jacket. When I'm doing a lot of welding, I put on a long sleeve dress shirt. I bought it on sale at Atwoods, our local farm and ranch store, for $5 off of a special discount sales rack. It's a nice striped blue shirt that you would expect a cowboy to wear, but not something that I would wear out in public.

I bought one on sale, supposedly 3 XL, it wouldn't fit an infant. Sent it back, they sent me an almost identical size, sent it back again, they messed it up again, sent me a cape. Sent it back again, they sent me another jacket way to small but it was at least a medium. Still way to small for my 6'2" 240lb frame.

I think I will order that Black Stallion jacket.

I thought I wanted a cape but it sounds like the jacket is more popular and there is probably a reason for that.

I am a little leery about ordering clothing online, especially when it comes from china. There seems to be some discrepancy in sizing with some manufactures. I wear a 2x lands end t-shirt and a 3x Carhartt jacket, so I think I will order a 4x welding jacket and hope it is big enough to at least get my arm in.

There is no "one size fit's all"solution when it come's to welding protection. If weather is cool enough,leathers are all you need but in warmer climates,dehydration and heat stroke have to be considered. It's so hot in Tx during summer I wear long sleeve cotton shirts until they have so many holes sparks find their way in. Most shirts I buy to wear daily are cotton-synthetic blend so those are not suitable when I retire them. I buy new 100% cotton shirts on clearance or used at Goodwill. Most inexspensive welding jackets and shirts are simply flame resistant,some are flame proof meaning sparks will burn holes but garment will not burst into flames. The process,type rod,size rod and rusty metal determin's number of and size of sparks. Add that to overhead and possabilities are unlimited.
I've come to realize my shirt suffer's almost as many pin holes from grinding.

I'm using the leather apron and sleeves from Harbor Freight and a pair of Tilman mig welding gloves from the welding supply.

After reading the reviews for the Black Stallion I went a different way.
I ordered one from Magid that is a little heaver at 12 oz. It should be here Monday.
Magid has an odd way of measuring so I jumped up to the 5x size. I'd rather swim in it than have it restrict my movements.
